Is 150 ft-lbs for lugs overkill?

This thread went from being a discussion based thread to people trying to one up each other who cars about grammar were talking cars here guys.

The OP asked is 150 lb-fts overkill. It simply is not and well within the typical torque spec for a M14 bolt

Anyone who uses less does so at their own risk

Why would you put diesel in your Mustang? You really should follow what the manufacturer suggests. :headbonk:

Because all my life I've driven diesels and torqued lugnuts to 100lbs.

Now that I own a petrol Mustang, I'm going to keep using diesel and torquing my wheels to 100lbs because it's what I've always done. Why should I follow the manufacturer recommendations? :cheers:

The problem is he is putting others at risk if a wheel falls off for not following a simple torque spec the manufacturer recommends and the engineer specified what size stud and nut etc etc.

I really do not get how this simple question has turned into this long ass thread with no meaning!

To the other posters who choose not to follow simple instructions its your car torque it to whatever you feel just know you are putting yourself and others at risk. Ford has provided you the specs in the owners manual and also in the repair manuals! If you choose to ignore them so be it but don't bother asking a question if you don't want help!

4 pgs.....really? Thanks to the 2-3 members who clearly explained the principal of stud stretch
to achieve a required safe clamping force. IMHO: Yes, the Ford engineers do know better.

At least we all got a education on studs and stretch etc from those that know!
