So, I went to Ford today to see if they could repair my lug nut heads that are completely ripped off. Ford was stomped and they said they would call me.

Eventually they did and stated that when we put the winter wheels on, we removed the plastic pieces and never put them back on. So, the cost is going to be $497 dollars to repair everything (labor included).

1. When we did the winter wheels, no plastic rings were included nor were on my car.
2. Is this a rip off? It feels like it.
3. Who do I talk to if it is!?

I'd like to hear more about this problem and solutions from others so it doesn't happen to us.

Thanks

So, did you shear off three wheel studs? Looks that way in the photo.

Yeah? You posted another thread that said someone stole 3 lug nuts over a period of time to sabotage you. Now you post a pic of 3 broken studs?

Yes. Until I catch someone in the act, I don't have anything to go off of. Something I stated. I have/had no hard evidence, and have a report to go off of. Until I catch someone, I have to go with what I know. I don't see the problem, but your condescending tone says otherwise. Everyone is always wanting to start shit here. Jesus.

Anyways. Does anyone remember seeing these plastic pieces around their lugs? I don't.

Do you have any idea how the studs were broken or how long you drove around that way?

They broke driving home. I'd say 15-20 miles max. Guys at Ford blamed plastic pieces and said they were removed. But they never were there when we put on the winter wheels.

I believe Mustang wheels are axle centering so if your winter tires don't have the adaptor rings there will be extra stress on the lugs causing them to fail prematurely.
So are those the same lugs that were missing from your car when you said someone was trying to steal your wheels?

$500 dollars for wheel studs in an ass f&$king! ARP wheel studs are $60 dollars for a set of five. The studs just press in. So less than 1 hour of labor. The old people in the neighborhood aren't snapping off you studs. A ham handed mechanic did that.

Just from driving. I didn't actually hand do that.
Do you winter wheels have centering rings ? This looks like whoever torqued the nuts, overtorqued them - probably with an impact wrench since 150 lb-ft isn't easy to overtorque.
Highly doubt lack of centering rings (if your wheels had them) could have caused it.

I bought 4 sets of these: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-100-7703

Extended ARP studs .625" knurl diameter. You would need open ended lug nuts with these, though and it's 1/2x20 thread pitch vs stock M14x1.5. These fit a wider range of wheels.
