The concern is that the oil going through the intake will first gum up the MAF, coat the intake runners and valves, and reduce the effective octane rating of the gasoline, before it finally gets burnt up in the engine and escapes through the exhaust.
i need to get the nut/screw for this install location. what size did you pick up: also, i got the ultimate version and it appears the lines will need to be trimmed just a bit. i dont really see anyone mention that here. much thanks.I installed my Bob's Air/Oil Separator as soon as I brought the car home. Customer service was great, the package shipped quickly, it was packaged well, the quality seems to be excellent and it was a pretty simple to install.
I didn't like the location in which it was supposed to be installed so I "moved" it to the passenger side just in front of the fuse box. There was already a hole stamped from the factory so I didn't have to drill any additional holes (bonus). I'm probably over-thinking it but I didn't like how it installed between the ground connection and the body of the car because of any possible grounding/electrical issues.
I also think it actually looks cleaner in this position. The only issue I ran into was getting the bracket to sit level (aesthetics only) so I put a washer under the bracket. I've seen some folks installing their catch cans further forward closer to the front of the car and the radiator to keep it cooler. I may try this if I find the can getting pretty hot. I haven't drained it yet but I plan to after the first 2000 miles which I think Is about the average from what I've read on this forum.
That's not a concern on the mustang since the MAF is the first thing on the intake after the filter. The oil will not get to it.
Can someone tell me why this wouldn't work on a car with a Procharger installed? Are the internals in the can different when intended for FI? I know hose routing changes, but would think a catch can is a catch can?
