Frustrating rear noise ?

Hi folks my car for the past number of weeks has started to make a noise from the back passenger wheel area . I would describe the noise as a quite loud thump . It seems to happen mainly if I am reversing and after stopping or even when I come to a stop if I drive forward quickly that's when I hear quite a loud thump from rear passenger area. You would nearly think that the rear passenger wheel brake pads were sticking and then releasing . Its not the drive noise that's common and already there.

I would say its has stated to happening after I installed the KW3's but I don't believe that has anything to do with it . I have put it back on the lift a few times and checked all nuts bolts and examined everything thoroughly looking for signs of anything that's not as it should.

I have been on to ford and they have advised me to take it down to them and let there tech guy listen to the noise . I just thought I might post on here and see if anyone else has had similar issues ?

Think [MENTION=13598]Gibbo205[/MENTION] had a similar-ish noise which, IIRC, turned out to be propshaft bearings.

The fact the noise is mostly present when reversing would make me have a look at the bolts at the rear of the prop.

Not had any issues with my propshaft.

KW's here, car is silent.

I used to have driveline clunk due to running CB005 with Steeda differential bushing inserts, since removing the Steeda driveline is silent too and also no diff whine any more either.

All I can think of as you mentioned brake pads maybe your caliper is seizing which is something which did happen to mine, but in fairness it made no noise, it just seized on.

Make sure your rear springs are correctly seated, check CJ video to ensure correct orientation and installation of rear springs, otherwise no idea, check your subframe bolts are torqued up too.

Hi Gibbo I have look at an old thread of yours regarding rear noise and have to say after watching your videos mine seem to be doing the same noise sound exactly the same . Only difference mines does not make the noise while reversing only when taking off .

Regards the springs the KW's can only really go in the one way .

Ah yes I remember now, that was a lose bolt, just go and re-torque every bolt in the rear, even the ones you did not touch.

If it's not a loose bolt, check that your hill start assist isn't snatching.

I used to get a thump from the take up of the rear diff when setting off from a standstill in a Jag I used to have. I never kept the car long enough to investigate or solve the problem but other owners of the same model reported it could be caused by too much fluid in the diff box.

I notice you have an auto (not equipped with hill start assist) and if you think it is driveline related then I would suspect the transmission or diff.

Just an update I left car with ford this morning they sorted noise . Guy said that they tightened suspension . I told them that all suspension was re-tightened to factory torque spec when coilovers were been installed he said that sometimes thats not enough . They must of come at it with a crow bar because I had them suckers tight . Anyway noise is gone .

One of my puddle lights was faulty and they replaced the two of them they said that ford were now replacing the two at once now.

Luckily the mother in law is to big to fit in the back seats of my Mustang :lol::lol::lol:
