Wasn't sure if this should go in the order/price/tracking or here,
but since all my 18 prices are theoretical, I stuck it here. (feel free
to move it if appropriate).

So right now, I can get a 17 base auto GT with no options for $28,350
(includes freight and $750 loyalty discount, but not tax/tags/dealer fees).
Sticker is $35,105

I was surprised that base auto GT sticker in 14 was $33,230 and 17
is only $1875 more. 14 came with spare, 17 comes with PSeat, so
calling those options a wash.

With that in mind, my guess on 18 is another $200 for 10 speed and
another $800 for base GT, so say $36,105 for base auto GT. Lets say
you strike a great deal when it first comes out @ invoice, or -$2026
= $34,079 - 750 loyalty?? = $33,329.

Two dealers with these low prices on 17's have said $20K for my 14 base
auto with 5800 miles. Lets assume that drops to $19K (maybe less) when
18's come out (even for just ordering in June).

Taking all that into account and taxes (including differences), these would be
what I'd pay OTD (not including tags and dealer fee of $300)

17 - $8,934.5
18 - $15,332

So is 18 really worth $6400 more? (heck is 17 worth 9 grand
over 14, I think overall chassis could be)

10 speed worth a couple MPG and maybe a couple tenths to 60.
added power another tenth or 2? How much money does it take
to get 3-4 tenths off on a 60 run for a 15-17? Lets say a tune and cat
back or $1000??

Base 18 suspension is supposed to be equal to 17 PP, so that's approx $2500
that you don't have to spend on 18 (and you can't get it with 17 auto anyway).

So does that make it closer to a $2900 difference? (except
you get to pick the tune, catback, and suspension stuff on 17).

Now that $6400 could get you closer to FI, and I think that
is where the comparison ends when you look at it that way.
Trying to think why would I wait for an 18?

I'd go for the 2017 because you'll get a better deal, nicer design and better colors. The 2018 aside from being uglier is going to be a short-lived design. The S650 will have all those upgrades from the 2018 plus an all new lighter platform. I will pull the trigger later in the year for a 2017 GT premium/pp race red or lighting blue.

Only you can decide if the 18 is worth it to you. Mustangs aren't bought for serious budgetary reasons, they're toys/hobby, as well as transportation.

You're detailing out the numbers into the minutiae. The real questions is, do you want an 2018 Mustang enough to pay for it? This isn't a logical decision, you don't need a Mustang.

If you want to be logical and make a sound financial decision, buy a base Honda Civic.

depends if youre modding or staying stock. I will mod so the upgrades to the suspension for the 18 mean nothing. The hp bump wont mean much since I will tune my 17. other then that I prefer the look of the 17 and most importantly to me GRABBER BLUE lol

Your 14's a nice car, quit teasing yourself. But if you must lose money just buy a used 15 with some nice mods.

I know, everyone always suggests what they do but seriously I got the car in my sig with 7500 miles originally stickered at 44 k for 29,500 a couple months ago. If you just want a 6th gen why not enjoy one with the goodies.

would a 3.9 zero - 60 and a 12 flat 1/4 make it worth it? I would hold out for the performance numbers and factor that into the equation.

I think the 18 is worth it, even more so if your looking for an auto, deals will be popping soon enough.

Just seeing if anyone thought there were other intangibles
I may not have thought of. Tougher I realize with no real specs
or road tests on the 18 yet.

Eventually would like to go TT, so 18 could even be a drawback
depending upon new hood clearance.

Well, I thought the 14 was pretty nice until I bought a 15 AWD Fusion
daily driver and the chassis is so much better than my 14 Stang.
Sad, but it's not even close.

Wouldn't that be close to 7 tenths in the 1/4 over the current car?
If it only gets another 20 HP, I don't see it , but maybe
that 10 speed will help a lot more than I think.

I'd be more worried about the $20k for your car with only 5,800 miles. You should definitely be able to get more. You might want to sell it privately. If I was in your shoes I'd wait until specs are announced for the 18 and go from there.

You aren't going to be near the horsepower and torque of the new Coyote with just a tune.

So everybody that in 2014 was complaining the 15s were ugly is now hating on the 2018s. Gets old. The 18 is the design the 15 should have been, really got the front end right. What an improvement. I'd be all over the 18 if I were in the market.

2017 or 2018 Ford Mustang Decisions, Decisions - Repeat

I have been going back and forth on this same topic.
Conclusion: Reached

2017 Positives:
1. 2017's will be discounted this summer so you wil get a great deal on one.
2. Having left over money for targeted mods will bring you to 2018 HP levels.
3. The 2015-2017 S550's look way better than the 2018 model

2018 Negatives:
4. 2018 - new engine, new transmission - there are going to be issues. No Thanks !
5. 2018 model will cost you a pretty penny too.
6. 2018 Front Fasia - Ugly as hell. If it has to grow on you then its not sexy !

Just my take.

Ok expert . 455 is what the damn thing will be and with the new compression will not be boost friendly like current 5.0 . Keep in thinking the 18 is going to be some kind of super mustang it won't lol

Left that one out as a NEGATIVE on the 2018. That plus the cost of maintainance & repair / replacement for all the fancy technology.
