Took it for a ride this am and no more ping. Bham!
Mark - I'm sorry if I missed it but what did you 'change' that resulted in no more ping? Or do you think it's just figured things out on its own? If so, could it be ambient temp related? Have you noticed a pattern?

Why is it that the notches people have to cut in the cover seem to be different? Some are shallow, some are deeper more to the right..etc. Is it possible that the hosing/T can be placed to where no cutting is required?

Absolutely...I'm going to try and put it back in this morning. Fit or no, I'll snap a picture.
Ok, so I can confirm what has been noted previously. Technically, you could cram the FR oil separator in with the PP2, but it sits very firmly against the wiring for the TB. I think it's a bit disingenuous when they suggest you get one or use one with PP2.

The pictures aren't the best, but it is firmly wedged against the TB wiring. Nope, I'll be putting it up for sale and ordering a JLT today. Too bad, because I really liked the FR unit; excellent engineering, worked really well.

I cut my tube you put the T in further back, so my cover fits just fine.

I think it depends on where the 'T' fitting is installed and how the hoses are "happy" which is different for every vehicle. The hose comes off of a spool which causes a varied natural bend radius. It's just the nature of mass manufacture.

It also has a bit to do with user preference. I didn't want a deep obvious notch so I cut long sweeping edges instead of an abrupt notch like the one on the previous page.

it appears both notches are about the same depth.

The day I picked the car up it was 82 degrees and I drove it 20 miles through heavy stop/go traffic and noticed the ping when I got close to home. Yesterday was a little cooler and I took it on a 60 mile ride on country roads and tried to get a ping and nothing. Today its 62 out and I took it for a 10 mile drive and tried multiple times to get it to ping and nothing.

I did not do a refill or anything and am pretty sure it just needed more learn time, but it could be the cooler weather too (hoping not). Time will tell but running nice right now and I will be looking for it in the next few weeks as it warms back up here.

Yep, hoping it's gone for good but keep us posted.

Re Ping, I switched from 87 to 91 months ago, so the car had plenty of relearn time before install of PP2. I wonder how many with ping issues are just now switching octanes???
Well, I have been using 91 octane ever since I took delivery of the car. I also installed oil separator within the 1st 100 miles. The engine still pings. It pings less with Octane Adjust turned on.

I have Power Pack 3 essentially and FRPP separators on both banks, they fit OK. Yes you need to get creative with harnesses and hoses but it does fit.

Loosen the bolts on the coolant reservoir and as it has some movement to give you more room. :)

P.S. Keen eyed will spot thats not a 350TB, but now I have 350 TB in as well and there is not fitment issue. :)

Conclusion:

The 575 dollars I spent on this is well spent. It is like driving a new, much more powerful car.
I agree with you. We must be a few of the lucky ones. No issues whatsoever, other than the one caused by me where I broke the vacuum inlet to the intake and had to replace the whole damn thing :frusty::lol:. Runs like it should though.

It should not ping, ever. The entire point of the knock sensor (as you've noted) is to avoid just that UNLESS the tune has pushed the timing too far such that the ECU cannot pull enough to avoid the ping.

My old M3 with its 11.5:1 compression ratio has never ping'd once, ever, on 91 CA fuel. There are days when it feels super fast and others when it doesn't, surely the ECU pulling timing like should, never a peep. The Mustang should not, either. If this tune has an OAR it doesn't seem to be working properly for certain members here. The stock tune doesn't ping on crappy winter blend 91, so....

The tune is the problem, not the fuel. Hopefully we can figure out how to resolve this.
I agree completely with what you said. I have tuned quite a few cars over the years and audible pinging is pretty rare unless really pushing it past the limit. It is definitely an aggressive tune issue, my worry would be if the ping persits over more than a day or two. The OAR is a learned value, so it does take a little time to adjust itself.

The AOS can be a help too, as any oil in the intake manifold can definitely lead to detonation especially under part throttle. Subaru's are notorious for this very thing. I just wasn't aware the Coyote had such blow by issues?

The intake must locate it in a slightly different spot, because I fiddled with mine for quite a while, and no matter what I did, it was jammed against the TB wiring. No amount of "repositioning" was going to make it work. With the stock intake and GT350 TB, it just didn't work for me.

I'm glad yours fits, cause it looks awesome, and I love the FR unit.

I'd like to see a pic of someone who got the PP2 and FR to fit together.

I did re-route the throttle body connector wiring completely and also taped it to the plug as Ford do from factory. But with that done it fits, yes its tight but as the hose that goes from FRPP to manifold is a flexi hose it can re-position the FRPP slightly as well.

That makes more sense. Your set up is really nice. My set up followed the Ford instructions, because it was done by the dealership. Good to know it can work for those who want to make it work.

I have PP2 with stock manifold and my FP filter fits. It's snug but it fits. The throttle body connector is VERY close to it but it does not push against the filter at all, just sits right next to it.
