Was the ping diagnosed as engine or just the throttle body slamming shut

I haven't done any vacuum tests. Typically I'll use carb or brake clean and spray it around and when the engine goofs up is where the leak can be found. Soap will just get sucked in when there's a vacuum leak, I thought.

But if I had a vac leak, I'd expect a code by now.
You're absolutely right, I should have said Carb cleaner....NOT soap and water. (That's tires, I'm an idiot. :frusty:) I didn't think about it throwing a code for the vac leak. Then I am stumped....I feel for you, because my experience, although very limited has been positive.

I did pick up my car from the shop and I have to say, so far impressed.

Quick Review:

Full disclosure, I paid way too much for the install. They charged me shop rate for 4 hours, and at SF Bay area service department prices, it was $600. I probably should have paid about half that, but I very much like the place I took it.

They are very professional, communicate well, and the work is always super clean. Also, they followed through with all my requests. Most importantly, they downloaded everything to my jump drive, and provided it to me at pick up. This was very important to me, as I wanted to have the tune and upload software in hand in the event there was ever a problem.

The Bad:

They did have to remove my FR air to oil separator. I told them to take it off if it was in the way. I have not had a chance to see if I can put it back in, but it does look tight, so I'm glad they didn't try to force it. If it won't fit, a JL will be going in ASAP. (I didn't run the car without one before the tune, and don't want to do it now. That thing catches a crazy amount of oil.)

Also, they didn't notch the intake cover and it does touch the hose. Not much, but enough I am not comfortable. It's either going back for them to do it properly, or my buddy and I are going to notch it this weekend. I have to see how tough it looks.

The Good...0 Rev Hang, 0 detonation/ping. The engine runs as smooth as it ever has. Idles at a perfect 750, smooth acceleration, and deceleration/engine braking.

The additional power is noticeable. The car feels lighter (obviously the torque) and it seems to rev a bit quicker. It's really nice to 4k rpm, then above 4k rpm it is crazy strong. (Of course the Coyote motor is already great above 4k, this just makes it that much better.)

The removal of the sound tube makes the car sound fantastic. I can now actually hear the intake and exhaust under acceleration, and it's quieter at highway speeds, around town, and at idle.

So far I have only driven 22 miles with the tune, and I have not had a chance to do a thorough inspection of the work. (Just a quick look at the dealership prior to dive off.) But, I am very happy thus far. Even though I paid about $200-$400 more than I should have, so far seems worth every dollar.

Oh, and love the TB clunk...cracks me up every time I turn off the car.

Conclusion:

The 575 dollars I spent on this is well spent. It is like driving a new, much more powerful car.
Ambrotos, is your car an auto or 6 speed? We should probably keep track of which one's working better overall with the PP2 tune, and not everyone lists auto or stick in their car descriptions.

It's the 6 speed. It was also pretty hot out today so my inlet temps were pretty high. I can't wait till for this cold front to come in!

For once I can go into 5th gear in this shitty florida traffic and not feel like I am slug trying to make it up hill at 50 mphs.

My stick did just fine on two 500 mile days. Merging onto highways is just fun!
Well just reporting back on my install of the FP / PP2. I put a bit over 150 miles on the new tune at this point. I've been driving the car pretty much the same as I always have.

Today I filled the tank up with all we have here in CA...91 Oct. That was about 12 fresh gals. The temp. here today was about 60 degrees. I took it for a good spirited drive. Some twist's, highway and a 0-60 and a 0-100 run. It was about a 15 mile run. I didn't check the time on the 0-100 but it was sure quick and from the seat of my pants dyno...it was much more noticeable power then per-tune pulls.

I flogged it pretty good. No babying it. The intake makes a nice throaty sucking sound on WTO. or just snapping it in the power band between 2500 and 4500. Pulls really strong. During my 0-100 run in track mode using the paddles and shifting at about 6000 rpm's the shifts were snap fast. I could diffidently feel the tranny pump pressure difference from first to second and third. The exhaust seems a tad louder as well.

Normal mode, sport +, and Track mode. No ping, no hang. car runs like a beast. According to my tack apps. 0-60 was 4.8 sic's. Car runs strong and flawless.

I don't know if I just got lucky or what, but I'm satisfied with the package.
Well, I just installed my P2. It took about 1 1/2 hours to do. The biggest issue I had was trying to figure out what tubes I had to cut, and add the T-connect to. Even the directions aren't too clear, it just says " cut these tubes and add the T". wtf

The sound tube either wasn't connected or I have arms like the hulk, but the tube just came right off. I didn't have to remove any bolts. This was the 2nd biggest issue I had, reading all the issues about the sound tube, and bolt removal. I looked for about 15 mins trying to figure out how to get it out when all I had to do was pull. Maybe I missed something that made it easy.

Installing the tune was pretty simple. Follow the directions by the steps it gives and you shouldn't have any issues. This process took about 10 mins due to having to use my cell phone as a hotspot. I also saw other instructions that I will quote at the bottom. Maybe this is what you guys are talking about.

I turned the car off for 15 seconds after installing the tune like it said, and started it. The car sounds more beastly. I have the Corsa Sport installed, and it made it sound meaner at idle. Revving it up and hearing the intake, and the car growl was great.

How does it run? To put it simply, it runs how it should have from day one from the factory. This car is much more muscle down, mid and top range. I no longer bog down trying to go slow over speed bumps, or starting slow from first. The torque increase has helped level this out.

If you like to drive hard you will burn your tires. I was able to do a lot more than chirping in 3rd gear. So much power down low as compared to before is astronomical. You then hit mid, and it's so much fun. People will know you are getting on it.

Issues? I have noticed some slight rev hang. I don't find it much of an issue. I do have the steeda spring installed. Like I said, this is a very small issue. One I can quickly over look and not care.

No pinging at all. It runs flawless. I filled up on 93 last night in prep of the install.

Advice.
I removed the engine overflow tank tube to have better access to the TB. The main issue I had was I wasn't expecting it to be under pressure and piss out antifreeze everywhere.

The quick release clips on the quick connects. They are made to be simple. Don't go off applying brute force. They just slightly pop up and you are set.

If you cut the main tube (right side of the TB) for the T connect further back, I don't think you need to cut into your engine cover. I didn't have to cut a corner out for mine, it fits very closely without any restrictions.

Conclusion:

The 575 dollars I spent on this is well spent. It is like driving a new, much more powerful car.
Great to hear some positive news! Great advice too fellaz.

I think you are saying that we WON'T pass smog with this setup?? Is that because of the oil separator being non CARB?

Funny, I had already installed a MOROSO oil sep. I did not know at the time that they fell under CARB (no warning on the website). Also, I do NOT have any pinging. I don't know if that is due to the oil separator or just that the automatic version is not susceptible to the ping problem.

But looks like I may have to invest in a FRPP oil separator, if they are indeed CARB legal.

The MOROSO is so easy....turn the spigot and empty the oil.
Rich of SoCal - Mine is also automatic. And I have engine pinging. I have oil separator installed since I bought the car new. The oil catch can does catch considerable amount oil - that amount oil is prevented from entering the intake to negatively impact the octane of your fuel. I guess that this is the reason why Ford Performance recommends the oil separator to prevent the blow-by gas/oil from degrading the octane of your fuel.

I did switch on the Octane Adjust mode in Pro Cal 3. It seems help reducing the engine pinging somewhat. But I still experience pinging when engine is under load or doing aggressive driving or climbing a hill. I am very curious that yours does not ping. If you do not mind my asking, what brand of fuel do you use? Here in CA, we only have 91 octane. Thanks!

The autos are also 6 speeds. And you can shift them manually with paddle shifters.

I am also in Calif (SoCal) and use 91, usually from Costco. I don't know what adjustments the dealer made, but they spent a lot of time with the tune, they told me. I saw them road test it at least once.

Can you let us know if the Ford Performance AOS doesn't fit? I'm about to buy the Power Pack 2 + FRPP AOS.

Something to consider is the winter blend fuel that is most likely out in certain areas of the country. I know locally (WV) it is more prone to detonation as opposed to the summer blend we receive. Obviously this in not an area of concern for those in warm climates, but if your area uses the winter blend it will definitely have an adverse effect on the tunes aggressiveness.

Ford also uses an Octane Adjust Ratio (OAR) which basically keeps track of knock detection trends and is used to scale back timing over time. This is how the ECU can run on different fuels such as 91 vs 93. Optimum timing is set for 93, but those running 91 the computer will adapt the consistent knock events and scale back timing accordingly. Hope this helps.

From my experience with the procal tunes in the past (and looking like the same with the new one's), not everyone experienced ping. It is likely a fuel quality thing and or how the engine responds to it. Luck of the draw I guess.

Those getting ping can rule it out 100% by draining your tank dry and running a few gallons of race gas. Those that can't get rid of it via changing the procal spark adjust and or oil separator, better fuel quality...will likely be stuck with the issue as Ford Racing isn't going to do anything about it.

Re Ping, I switched from 87 to 91 months ago, so the car had plenty of relearn time before install of PP2. I wonder how many with ping issues are just now switching octanes???

I don't get you guys running 87 in these cars.
My brother ran his ecoboost stang with 87octane at the track.
He ran a 15.2 @90 stock and 14.7 tuned. 2.0 60 ft and in good air near sea level... car just wasn't making any power.
Put in 93 octane and ran a second faster than above tuned/stock.:headbonk:

Reading through all these posts I've wondered the same thing...
