Sound tube delete

Removing the Sound tube does it make much differance ?

My GT is a daily driver. I will probably never change the exhaust on my car. I do like the way it sounds in the cabin now but dam that thing looks horrible. Any of you remove it and notice a decrease in sound ?


I imagine if your exhaust is Non Stock it wouldn't make a differance but what about on stock exhaust ?

I removed it, but good lord it is a PITA! The bolt attaching it to the firewall is a bitch.

I took it out when I did an aftermarket intake. I like how it cleans up the engine bay a bit. I didnt really notice any change in sound. I took the tube out in my STi and noticed it was a bit quieter, though. The GT was way louder (aftermarket exhaust) anyway

Yes it will decrease interior volume some. It's not a lot, but you will notice it.

I think it sounds cleaner without it. Cap off the intake tube to try it and see. Check my build thread for a very cheap and easy way.

I removed it. I prefer the exclusive sound of the exhaust.

I might upgrade the intake eventually but it's all stock for now. I imagine the CAI adds to the sound.:shrug:

But do you have the stock exhaust ?

My only thought is that it might be too quiet and I usually shift gears to the sound of the exhaust. :shrug:

I'm in for deleting stuff that doesn't do anything useful...exhaust resonator, sound tube, the two helmholtz resonators on the intake, and the intake blockades on the grille. Already did the first 2 items, the last 2 items still not done yet.

I spent 15-20 min with a 10mm flex head ratcheting wrench and only got the nut half way off. Damned hand cramped up so bad, I've got to finish another day.

10mm wrench, thanks for the tip good to know! That will save me at least 1 trip to the tool box!!

I found it way easier to come at it from underneath the car when I removed mine.

I removed it when I installed my corsa CAI. it was a bitch at first but then I found a 10mm wrench in my box that was about an inch shorter in length handle length. I would have never been able to get it off without it. Gave me just three right clearances and only took about 5 min after that.

Just pull it out.!if you have any strength at all you can un clip and yank it out in less than 30 seconds. Then plug it and go on with your day
