Do transmissions usually make noise?

Mine is silent but it does have the thud you are describing. When I stop at a stop
sign then press the accelerator, I don't hear a thud but I can feel a slight jerk like a downshift as I pull away from a dead stop. It doesn't do it all the time but I have heard others here complain about it too so I'm writing it off as normal. I had a Honda Accord that did the same thing and drove it for 150,000 miles.

Sometimes a get thud shifting from P to D just like I did in my 08 GT. Its not uncommon in Ford trannys. Unless its egregious I wouldn't worry.

Other than that my auto makes no noise. If you're getting a clunk taking off from a stop I would definitely take it in.

My gt is my first gasoline car. It's an auto and at 4200 miles on it the transmission keeps making odd noises. Pinging when switching between p and d. Also clunking when going from a stop and accelerating into first gear.

Are these pings and clunks normal?

It's hard to answer your question over the internet without actually hearing the noises. Any part that moves makes noise.

Your Ford Mustang GT has a minimum of a 5 year 60,000 mile warranty on the drive train. You definitely don't need to rush into the dealer for a noise. Now if you notice the noises getting louder, that's more of an indication that something is wrong and failing.

Nothing wrong with taking it to the dealer to find out for sure, though.

This is exactly what I have! Especially if I do a "California" stop and slow down to about 5mph the car sort of jerky forward and there is a thud from the rear axle. It comes and goes and I've noticed my brake pedal application can affect it

There is a thread on here regarding the 6R80 clanks/clunks when placing the vehicle into gear.

There is actually a Ford TSB/SSM that directs the Service Center to check the runout specs and if specs are not within what is acceptable, I believe the fix is to replace the transmission flange and rear pinion flange. This corrective action would be done so under the 3/36 warranty without any cost to the customer.
