That's what the guys said who passed on a '73 Mustang to get the '74 2nd gen.
I'd actually prefer a smaller Mustang with a suspension still being used widely in the aftermarket and with an available V8. The '73 was ok, but '74 much better in my opinion. I'm not on that bandwagon that says there was a problem with the Mustang II - other than the anemic engines. I blame the low power output on the government and those people that voted that government into power, though. It wasn't Ford's fault.

Frankly I think the current Mustang is a little big and bloated as well. I hope to see it getting smaller soon. I can't say I want smaller engines or better fuel economy though. I 100% disagree with those that think burning gas is somehow wrong or that it damages the environment.

Every Mustang from 71-78 sucked. But at least the Mustang II sold decently.

Just got my weekly update on my 17R (UMH of course, if you can call that an update :frusty: ).

I had inquired about an 18R (esp with rumors of DCT or perhaps the unexplained Voodoo update from UAW contract). I managed to get the only 16 and 17 R allocation from my dealer, so I was hopeful to get their 18 if there were improvements. Really wanted a newer gearbox.

He would not engage with me on that topic (even to put me on a waiting list cuz they require a deposit) until he heard about availability.

Here is his quote/rumor today:

Greetings My Friend
First the disclaimers: nothing official and nothing in writing. The GT-350 and R cars will not be offered in 2018 as their replacements are in final testing.

I offer it up for what it is...just unconfirmed info for your cogitation. :ford:
The UAW Agreement late 2015 says that Romeo will continue to produce the Voodoo 5.2 with improvements after 2017.

https://uaw.org/app/uploads/2015/11...th-numbers-p24-headings-page-6-charts-p25.pdf

There hasn't been any official word but one of the Engine builders mentioned that the Flat Plane version would continue in a GT350.

The GT350 is continue as homologation for the GT4 car :( Like the Z06, ZL1, Z28, CTS-V and ATS-V, for some reason, the engine selected was the CPC version.

Currently, the Romeo Engine Plant (sorry about Romero) doesn't have a UAW agreement to build a 5.2 CPC V8. It appears RoushYates will be developing the engine with Ford in house.

The 5.2 is a R/Y prep'd Aluminator and it has nothing to do with Romeo.

The UAW agreement does show new transmissions though and I think a DCT is coming for the next GT350. It just won't have proper representation in Motorsport. Like the Z28 and ZL1, being based on the GT350 and having all its exterior pieces are close enough :(

It's not like the GT350 can't clean house...

Another thing, as of now, the 5th Gen Riley Camaro with an LS3 is GT4 sanctioned.

I should probably stay away from this but...

You 100% disagree? How is that possible? Clearly mining the earth and stripping it of its natural resources is cause for at least a little acknowledgment that we are potentially damaging the planet!

For what it's worth, I think we are doing massive damage. And no matter how you slice it, for whatever reason, I just took the dogs out for a walk, on the east coast, in a Tshirt.

Personally, I just don't care. As a species we are quite rapidly destroying the planet. Eventually the planet will not be able to sustain us and our species will die off.

Then the planet will slowly repeat the process through the next billion years or so.

So until then, I'll drive my V8's and burn fossil fuels and consume just like the rest of our species. We are in the golden age of mankind. Might as well enjoy it with a throaty V8.

Interesting, I believe you were in the same group as me at the track attack. I asked Jim Owens if there would be a 2018 350 as he was walking out the door.. if you were there you'd have heard his answer and it was not No.

Hmmm... "their replacements"... very, very interesting.

I look at this two ways:
1) "Bugoff man! It's too early to be starting this crap again!"

Or

2) "Hey, forget that old techno 350... have you seen the new GT4? We got some new stuff coming so just hold your panties up and be patient."

Hope this helps. Lol.
Not sure 2) helps. It's essentially a gt350 body with different aero. A 5.2l based off the 5.2l aluminator xs crate engine with the addition of dry sump etc. If anything it's further away from the 350 than the current GT350R-c. We certainly won't be getting the racing trans they are using.. nor would Ford switch to a spool valve shock. Unless of course they offer a down rated version to the average consumer. A 225k dollar gt4 race car appeals very little to my bank account.

If you really think that it's wrong to dig things out of the ground and use them, how can you participate in those activities? You should stop using anything that comes from the earth if you really believe that. Frankly - if you think CO2 emissions are "bad for the earth", you should stop breathing. Definitely don't have any kids, as they will use lots and lots of natural resources. Much more than any one car.

Greenies are so illogical. :frusty: What bothers me most is this false ideology not only costs the rest of us a ton of money, it takes away our freedoms! In the context of loving cars and gasoline engines, I don't understand why anyone on this forum could support this. Don't you understand that politicians and organizations are only pushing the green agenda in order to gain power and money?

Don't read too much into it. I am on the side that there is an updated Shelby GT350 coming. If Ford made enough changes to the drivetrain, there is no reason to doubt that Ford hasn't finished final tuning/testing of the new configurations at this time.

Couldn't that statement be generalized to say all American cars and extended through the mid-80s?

Are you responding to my post? Or to some voice in your head?

Because if your responding to me, you didn't really capture or respond to anything I said.

And you have somehow labeled me as something I'm clearly not.

Direct injection and fuel system changes would take time to optimize. As would any auto/dsg/dct changes..I still say the mule everyone assumed was a new 500 is just a power train mule for updated 2018 components.

I pressed him repeatedly and his response was something like "there has to be a top dog Mustang", which could mean another special version (ie GT500, Mach 1, etc).

However, the GT4 homologation suggests it will live on. I do not know how those rules work and whether a new special Mustang could qualify, and replace the 350. Ford does appear intent on racing these cars to demonstrate their capabilities.

It is 2 years later, since the announcement of this car, and the competition has not been idle. If it stays, it would seem that some improvements would have to come along to keep it competitive. A bit more power and a new gearbox would probably suffice. It would make me consider trading (altho I still do not have a car to trade :frusty:) Actually, that's why I asked about MY18, cuz I would drop my 17 order for one with more power and a DCT

I will watch the LA show with great interest this year to see if they reveal what is next. :ford:

I think the gt4 has just been labeled mustang gt4 and not gt350 gt4. The shelby grill badge is gone etc.

Jim said there would be a 2018 350 and the same has been said to another member on here by Raj.

I also spoke to another person that was in the track attack on September 19th and he said the seat for the 350 was the same one going in the 500 or whatever it is to be called... he was high enough in the vendor chain to get the track attack invite and not own a 350..

I've heard from a friend who has close ties with engineering who said that the new 500 would have the 5.2l block and heads (modified cnc program) and the new tvs2650 blower that is the latest and greatest from Eaton and upwards of 720hp.

I'll take that 2017 allocation if you don't want it ;)
