Whipple belt chirp

I put on my new belt and ran the new route about a week ago. Took the car to TN and back and now its squeaking worse than before on cold starts. Going to flip the belt tonight and see if that helps. If that doesn't do it I am probably going back to the old belt size and routing.

Emailed Dustin this morning for suggestions. Has anyone changed belt brands? I remember back in my Terminator days the Goodyear gatorback belts were all the rage and everyone loved them.

When I took off the tensioner to check that pulley I found that the tab/key that holds the tensioner to the bracket had broken off inside the bracket. Not sure how it happened and the tensioner doesn't appear to have moved at all but some folks may want to make check theirs to make sure that the tensioner hasn't moved and reduced the belt tension.

Well got the double bearing tensioner pulley and it actually made the noise worse. noise stayed there the whole time. swapped back to the other pulley and noise pretty much went away. Whipple said they were looking into designing a new tensioner.

Yes I have thought from the beginning the tensioner was the issue. I had movement in mine and believe it was wearing my belt. I have one of the double bearing trial pulleys now and no squeak as of about 1000 miles. Fingers crossed?????

Breaking the tab off the back is due to shock. The shock is from slamming against its stop. Either the tensioner was not tight enough. Allowing the friction force in the back to not help hold in place and/or continued hitting if the stop which means the tensioner did not have enough travel to chase the stretch.

I have to admit, im starting to regret the amount of money I put into my 12K squeaky surging super charger. I know Whipple has great customer service and are very helpful each time I contact them, but im starting to wish I went with a KB SC

I've had my Whipple for six months. I'm embarrassed to start the car up to show it to friends because I never know if the squeak is going to be there or how loud it will be.Then the surging problem is driving me nuts.

I keep hearing from Whipple, any day now the new patch for the surge will be sent out and im on my third belt. I have the 10 rib belt which cost an extra 1500 and have been told they have a fix.I asked for the fix, now that is on hold also...im really starting to lean towards regretting this purchase....

I understand your frustration, with the belt chirping issue and the hesitation stumble at the boost transition. For me I had belt chirp once and when I turned the belt over it stoppped. If it didn't stop chirping and I had to drive it like that all this time I too would have been disappointed. Not fun when the motor squeaks and chirps on your new car. As far as the stumble hesitation issue that only surfaces under a certain load at the boost transition point, and is much less apparent at least for me in daily use. I would bet that KB has their own issues and growing pains as well, and I would not want to be dealing with KB tech. I had kenne bell's in the past and let's just say theirs no comparison. Hands down Whipple tech and the owner Dustin being on this site all the time is proof of there top notch service to customers. Whipple by far exceeds KB in every way in my experience.

Why all the issues? Belt chirp, hesitation/surging, auto shifting issues, ET & MPH not matching up to the awesome dyno numbers...I'd be alittle aggrivated myself. It's not like these kits just hit the market.

They claim only a small percentage of their units out there have any of these problems. Wonder how true that is?

My car only has belt chirping issues no hesitation issues and my car has great trap and mph in the 1/4 for me not really beating on it yet lol.

Belt noises are coming from misalignment on stock components, coupled with the direction of our tensioner in relation to the idler pulleys, it has no give for misalignment. This is why some have noise, most do not. Either way, we have 2 new designs testing right now. 1. New belt system. 2. New billet tensioner. After we have finished testing, we will update the customers with issues with the appropriate setup at of course, no charge.

Hesitation, some on manuals have felt this, but its just a minor bobble during the transition of vacuum to boost. Its a variance of roughly 10% in available torque output along with cam misalignment. The updated cals, which will be posted this week on the server has a different torque slew and updated cam position detection which eliminates this feel.

Auto shifting. The only issue is in the "optional" high RPM option. This was a unique feature, much more complicated then a manual and just changing the RPM limit since roughly 30 parameters change with the high option. The new cal disables the high rpm option and the standard cal has the high RPM option as standard.

As for MPH and ET, many have posted great times and speeds, an auto will go slower in high rpm mode vs normal. Other than that, most have done very well.

I understand your frustration, but finding the noise was an issue as not all cars show this. Also, many take 1000's of miles to come back, which makes it difficult as well. The 10-rib is more complicated due to clearance and a different tensioner. To remove your noise temporarily, put a 6 rib or 8 rib belt on it, problem is gone until we get you new components for the 10-rib.

You have emailed, called and PM'd many times looking for the fix, but we are working on it every day, its high priority for us so you will know the very day we have the parts ready to ship you.

I get the frustration as I also have the 10 rib kit with belt chirp but I have never once even thought for a second about wishing I went another route. I was one of the very first to put a Whipple on my 2015. I've been through many updates since installing the kit and honestly have never been treated better by a company in my 30 years of driving cars. Do I wish I didn't have to wait as long? Sure but I also realize sometimes things take longer to be accomplished than one would like. I also realize Whipple makes superchargers for many other platforms and is doing their best to stay on top of all of them.

I am certain the fix is coming and we will all be taken care of. Dustin is a great guy who cares very much about his customers as much as he does his company.

I am super excited to get the fix for my 10 rib and hopefully before I install my supercharger on my new car

Yes I still don't regret any penny I've spent I will never buy another supercharger again other than a whipple! I guarantee if it was another company we would not be getting taken care of like Dustin and his crew are taking care of us now. most companies would come up with a fix then charge you for it because your car might be out of their tolerances. I haven't spent a penny other then what I did on the kit originally and I did buy one belt by myself just to try but that was on me.
