I've spoken with a representative from Ford. My car doesn't meet lemon law or guidelines in my state for buy back. So Ford is doing only what they're obligated to do, which is to make a fair attempt at fixing my car's problem and to provide me with a loaner (of arguably vastly different value and performance of the vehicle I purchased).

Ford doesn't care about my concern over depreciation. They won't get me a replacement car or buy mine back. They can't even offer me any extended warranty because I already have the max 100k mile coverage they offer.

Speaking of extended warranty: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66930
I recently read my contract/T&Cs and it explicitly states the Shelby GT350 is not covered. So in addition to paying a markup for this fucking car, the extended warranty the dealer sold me doesn't even cover my car. I'm to spend more of my time contacting Ford and trying to get an answer OR refund for this. GREAT

Also, 12 days after leaving my broken car at the dealer, I'm finally given an ETA of 10/28 for my engine to be "shipped" by. Then I get to wait around to see if/what the dealer fucks up on the car. My car has been sitting outside on their lot the entire time (except for the minimal amount of time they spent verifying I have no oil pressure). It has a huge bird shit on the hood that looks like it's already eaten into the clear. Needless to say, I hope I get the car back working and in short order, so I can hurry up and list the fucking thing for sale.

As enjoyable as this car was [when it worked], there's no way this car has been worth the hassle and $5-10k depreciation after only 3 months (not counting ADM!). Of course, I won't know the full extent of my depreciation until I find a buyer willing to buy this thing. I greatly look forward to dealing with this, after returning to normal life after my wedding next week!
Damn.. that is a hassle but I'm not surprised by the dealers actions. Now I am surprised about that warranty, if the GT350 isn't covered they need to give you a refund.

I'd love to buy that car off you when you sell it but even at the depreciations you're expecting it would be way out of my budget. You need to find another mechanic with deeper pockets that won't be too paranoid about gremlins in vehicle.

Good luck my man, sorry for the heart break.

I'm very sorry this is happening to you. That said, it does not meet the Lemon law criteria. They have to attempt to fix it three times typically before you can look to the Lemon Law. Every state is a bit different.

If you have problems, even small ones with the engine, take it back. After the 3rd time I'd get an attorney that deals in Lemon Law cases.

As far as the warranty, They have to honor it if they sold it to you specifically for your GT350. It's not about getting your money back, it's about the dealer honoring their commitment. Seems to me this is an issue between Ford and the dealer.

I'm not one to say "lawyer up" for every little thing but if they are denying warranty coverage, and Ford will not assist, I think you need a lawyer.

With regards to the dealer who sold me the warranty having to honor it: I bought the car 150 miles outside of town, from a very small town dealer, as this was the closest I could find a car to MSRP. I wouldn't necessarily trust that dealer to work on my car. Nor would I want to be bothered with the 300 mile round trip every 3 months when my car needs a new engine. I don't expect to have this car long enough for my 6 year warranty to matter, especially after this engine incident.

If Ford confirms my car is not covered, I'm going to just get a refund and at least get some money back out of this nightmare hell ride.

So we've already established that lemon law is a no go at this point.

The future value of any car depends highly on how the owner took care of it, arguably, in original condition, no repairs (paint and such). By having the car stranded at the outside dealer lot for a month, they are removing your ability to take care of the car in a way that would best maintain it's value. If the car now requires touch up or repaint of parts, I'd consider looking into diminished value based on this being a specialty vehicle.

Good luck man

Sorry to hear about the delay. Lemon law wont matter unless you bring it in twice more for engine related issues, or the delay is longer. I would research your states particulars. Sounds like your a new member of the never buy Ford again club, welcome. Unfortunately there have been a lot of missteps for this particular car. Still deciding what to do with mine. Ill probably trade it in for a C7 GS. I will miss the exhaust note, but wont miss the other bullshit ford is pulling as customer support. I have called the dealer 3 times now for my refund concerning the oil change that resulted in a filter that spun loose, 3 times 2 weeks later no check, I suppose I will call them again and see what excuse there is now. Surprise I will be in Morgantown again next weekend so I can confront the lying POS to his face. Looking at you Freedom Ford. These dealers are really a joke.

Unfortunately, I can understand your frustration.

I've checked into the Lemon Law guidelines here in TX before I even contacted Ford. I still wanted to give them a chance to see what they may offer, perhaps "we'll buy your car back at a reasonable value, before engine destroyed itself, to make you happy". I only know of 8~ owners who are having their engine replaced under warranty. It's still a small percent even considering they've only built what, 7500~ production vehicles with the voodoo so far? Any love I had for the car is gone at this point; I'm content with them replacing the engine, I'm not happy I have to go through all this. They should buy the car back and let me walk away, eating $3k~ depreciation.

I like the GS vette, though it's out of my price range I think. Also, I'm unsure whether I will ever buy an American car again. This was my first, and I went into it knowing there could be issues, especially with this engine's uniqueness and being a first year car, etc. I gave the car a pass on the terrible panel fitment, the cooled seats that have the seat backs behave like a convection oven, and even my failed axle. This oil pump failure, without any explanation or assurance that the new engine won't have the same failure, this isn't for me.

For me its the lack of timely response for the coolers, piss poor dealer support, inflammatory comments, and long wait times for engines and replacements. I dont think FP is being upfront with big blue, or they just lack the support to make this program a success for the owners. Pray you got a good one or watch out! FP only got two of the transmissions, and went to back order, there are no engines? seriously, I bet over half of these cars are still sitting or not being driven, and engines are still popping routinely. And they still cant keep up.

Sucks! I can relate to the frustration. I do not even have an estimate as to when I will have an engine. Luckily my car is in the maintenance bay on the lift since it went in. I too am struggling with the idea of selling the car after the repair. SUCKS!!! I truly enjoyed the 5k miles I logged on the car. Will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, the weather here has been outstanding making it much more difficult. No doubt when I get the car back, my driving days will be gone till next year.....SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS!!!!

This extended warranty seems odd. Are you sure this is a Ford extended warranty? They are listing all sorts of non-Ford vehicles that aren't covered. Why would they do that if this is a Ford extended warranty?

Either way, I would not have expected an OPG failure on a GT350.

My car will most certainly be on their lot for more than 30 days. It arrived on 9/30, though I believe they officially took it in on 10/1 or 10/3. I have picture proof and tow records of delivery on 9/30 anyway. Ford won't even be shipping my engine to the dealer until 10/28. They tell me there's other Ford cars in line before me waiting on engine swaps too, at this dealership.

The dealer also has not even bothered to fix my rear bumper fitment while it's sitting waiting on an engine. Nor have they started the cooled seats TSB. At this point, I'm just hoping I get my car back sometime between now and the day I die.

Totally agree! My car died right before a weekend where our high was 72F and sunny! I had big plans to go driving all weekend, and hit up Cars&Coffee (insert obligatory "good thing you didn't go, people may have died" joke here).

Man that's rough. I'm sorry to hear about it all. As a retired from the field dealership service writer, it pained me to be the middle man in these situations. Especially with nice cars like these. I usually arranged for my customer's enthusiast cars to sit inside or be at least covered up. If you squawk about it enough as an adviser, it's not hard to get done at any dealer really. You have to let Ford attempt to repair the car and give them their right to properly repair. Afterwards, you can bitch at anyone and everyone if it isn't right. I wouldn't blame you for it either with the price tag of these cars. I hope it all works out for you in the end. Pretty much every enthusiast car that Ford makes outside of ST's and Raptors are a disaster to work on for a dealership. The lack of FRPP support is horrendous and we often had to jump through hoops and put customers out because our hands were tied. Sucks.

Thank you for the info. I think I'm giving the dealership a chance. I haven't really bitched at them (yet). I'm a little confused on why they won't fix my bumper fitment and do the seats TSB while the car is just sitting there, and obviously unhappy with my car sitting outside on their lot 24/7. I might call the service director and express my concerns. They told me they can't leave my car in a bay taking up space indefinitely until an engine comes in. I guess I understand this, despite being unhappy about it.

I think I posted earlier in this thread that I'm a lot less caring of my car being in other people's hands, knowing that it's about to have significant work performed on it. I'm having anxiety thinking of all the fasteners that will be touched, all the electrical harnesses that will be fiddled with, all the contact that'll be made by tools against various parts of my car while it's being serviced, etc. I'm going to be wondering about what may not have been torqued down properly and will inevitably vibrate loose thanks to this engine's vibes. After knowing the car has went through this, I have very little desire to want the car back.

I did take someone's advice on here, and went and filmed a detailed video overview of my car interior and exterior, incl around the door jambs and under the hood.

Well the one thing I can tell you is that once the ball is rolling and they've spent money, time, and parts on it, working on these cars are easy. They kind of fall together and most FRPP cars don't get touched by your average guy. Most of the time it's an enthusiast tech or someone that knows what the car is. They are often the cleaner/more organized of the bunch and run by the book. At least mine did. If I were you, I would go and put tape down and prep the car to be worked on just out of minor concern. It's a hassle, I know, but for sanity's sake it sounds like a good idea.

Hey Kyle,
Sorry to hear about your car & frustration. A couple of thoughts:
1) Dealer should be expected to take reasonable care of your car. If you have birdshit eating though the clearcoat/paint, can you use the video you took to show negligence ?
2) Much confusion around extended warranty on these GT350s. Today my dealer told me that VINS have been opened up for extended warranties and he's gonna be checking for me. Earlier this year we ran the numbers only to find out it wasn't eligible. Check w your dealer or other Ford rep and don't go unreliable info.
3) Good luck
