I've found that at least my MT82 prefers shifting over 3k. It hates granny shifting.

Lots of fair tips here like this one. Also not banging on the gears helps (me anyway) with driveline lash and other noises. I find just putting a pause in there when shifting, cluth, pause, shift, and let the clutch out. Like sitting still I can cluth put it in gear and get a good thud (expected), but push the clutch in, pause, the put it in gear easy, most of that is avoided.I've found that at least my MT82 prefers shifting over 3k. I had an E46 M3 which has the original Getrag version of the MT-82 and all the exact same quirks, and these are both things I learned on the M3 that carried over to the Mustang. The Getrag in the M3 was even worse because of BMW's horrifically terrible shifter design.Lots of fair tips here like this one. I have the same problem. Very jerky shifting and when depressing the clutch there is a quite audible "CLUNK KALUNK" noise like something is loose and banging around. Probably my only gripe with the car to be honest.Coming from a 2013 3.7L w/2.73 gears, now I have a 2016 5.0 w/3.73 gears....
I thought I knew the MT82 well, I had driven one for about 50,000 miles in all condition. But after buying this GTPP a week ago, it seems a lot different and I'm not sure what's normal.
2013 MT82 Mods:
- Red Steeda Shifter Base Bushing
2016 MT82 Mods:
- Whiteline Positive Shift Transmission Mount Bushing Insert but I have not installed it
- Steeda Clutch Spring
My shifts seem very jerky, especially 1-2, 2-3. The Steeda spring helped me feel the clutch grab quite a bit, but I'm having a hard time finding the sweet spot for a smooth transition, if there is one. I can baby the clutch to get a smooth shift, but I should be able to be faster with my feet. I'd say for city driving I'm shifting around 2k RPMs.
The other thing I've noticed is how clunky the linkage sounds with nearly every shift. It sounds like it's going to fall apart. The thud when shifting into first is very notable. Also, when shifting into first coming to a stop, I can hear the syncros spin up.
Is this normal? Any tips?
