Is anybody else here longing for a bit more low end power?
Even with short gears the 5.0 to me seems to need some more grunt in the sub-3000 rpm range. I know that's how the engine is, but even just around town I'd like it to move more without having to downshift.

But I also enjoy my warranty. Maybe some long tube headers would be in order? Or some more downshifting?

Stop shifting in to a higher gear so early. I rev mine to 4k before shifting.

Compared to the Camaro yes it is lacking but the motor makes up for it in the top end and when modded it revs about 1000 to 1500 more rpms then the Camaro so it should make up for the lack of low end.

Yes, I wish it had more low end grunt. It is fairly anemic below 3500-4000rpm. Especially at my DA.

Mine leaves long black tire marks from a low speed roll..I have no issues with low end tq.

A good tune will make it feel snappier. Still won't pull down low like an LS, but it's worth it for the free revving. Mine feels like it pulls hard all the way to my 7400 redline...

Ford's tune supposedly adds 40ft/lbs at 1500 rpms. Sort of warranty safe, drops Ford's standard powertrain warranty of 5 years/60k miles down to 3 years/36k miles so you lose 2 years and 24k overall. I'd imagine it is a very safe tune and any problems would most likely happen early enough after the tune that you should be covered.

Seems that a a lack of low end torque is a characteristic OHC/DOHC engines while pushrod engines (corvette/camaros) make power down low more easily.

My tune helped mine a ton but especially from 1500-3500. I normally shift at 2000 and get up to speed pretty damn quickly considering how many shifts I make in the process. If I want to get up to speed faster I just rev it higher and use more right foot. I have 3.31s too but I'm swapping to 3.73s here soon.

A good tune makes these cars like night and day.

Low end torque tends to come from longer stroke/smaller bore engines. The coyote is a short stroke/large bore engine. We used to call these "overbore" versus "underbore" engines. As a young man I used to race big block dodge wedge motors. Very torquey, longer stroke smaller bore engines like the 440 and 426 wedge. In the early 90's I moved over to small block Fords. A very different beast. I had to build for HP at higher rpm and gear for torque.
IIRC the GM engines have a longer stroke than the coyote and will be their nature deliver more down low torque

Honestly you guys have been spoiled by fast cars if you think it's lacking torque. Try driving a 4 cylinder Accord around for a while.

Yes, the Coyote kinda reminds me of the old two cycle dirt bikes l rode back in the seventies where they wouldn't really come alive until you got them "up on the pipe" and then they would flat out scream.

I completely agree. A tune and LT's will definitely help in that department.
