Cams wonā€™t help power thru those wacky 18+ ratios.
Also, if you're driving in a hurry with an MT82-D4, the rpm drop from 3rd to 4th is not cool.
...And your car can trip the speed governor in 4th, 5th and 6th gears, which is ridiculous.

When I think about gears, I'm more tempted by the 3160 swap than rear-end gears. The gear ratios for 3rd, 4th and 5th look significantly lower, but 6th gear is about the same and I could still cruise at 75mph, at 2200rpm.

Before anyone else says it, yes I'm sure the 3160 swap is a lot more expensive than rear-end gears. To me, it's on the table if my MT82 breaks.

Calimer is rebuilding the 3160 tranny too, so I donā€™t know if there are known weaknesses associated with it too. If we push things hard enough, we might have to pay the piper. Unfortunately it can be crazy expensive.

I promise you, if my rebuilt and enhanced MT82-D4 doesnā€™t hold up, Iā€™m going back to a factory tranny and Iā€™m done trying to squeeze this car for more. Having said that, Iā€™m gonna remain optimistic for now that it will perform as well as expected.

Honestly, I was hoping to never see this thread again but here it is.
At the end of the day this thread points to the 10R80 as the new King of transmissions. Foot Clutch and Hand Shifters be damned.
Ford shouldā€™ve just defaulted to the 10R80 and DCT as options.

Hey, not so fast GregO. Look at this option which might be a contender for the 10R80, lol.
