This thread is still going on, wow. if you remember back in the op original post, it wasnt just the transmission that he hated it was also the ride quality, the 3:73 gearing and the clunkyness of the drivetrain. He's happy now with his new ride and thats all that matters. Im happy with my gt/cs auto and i'm gonna be even more happier with my n/a 500+ rwhp build just around the corner. There is 1 thing we all can agree on is that this coyote engine is 1 bad ass motor n/a or boosted!

*****Op post pics of your new car!!!!!******

I bought my gt/cs auto with 3:55's and i knew from past experience not to buy another mt-82. I don't care how well they dress it up its still a garbage transmission. They should have went with a tremec when the 15's came out. My current car has every option you can get on a mustang minus the gloss black roof, but i have 3m vinyl wrap on order to take care of that. Autos are faster more reliable and dont need any mods when adding big power.. Im Really loving this car. Got wheels on order as well. Gonna hook this thing up and enjoy every minute I'm in it!

I've had 2 Tremec trans ,'12 SS Camaro(disapointing car) and my current GT500.(what a car!) They both shifted great. After driving my '15 GT auto, 3.55, I feel both would have benefited from a high quality auto. Never having to worry about breaking stuff on launch is very fun.

It cracks me up when Internet mechanical engineers call a piece of this car "crap/junk/garbage/trash/s**t/terrible/poorly designed, etc etc etc. Millions of dollars of research, top notch engineers with countless hours of work, thousands of hours of testing, and some guy on the internet who works on cars in his garage or doesn't know a cam from a crank can dismiss it like it's nothing.

Or it could be a brilliant flawless design, but imported with very poor quality control. IIRC, the MT82 was a Getrag box that has since been outsourced to China.

Some owners have problems with it, others have none. Doesn't that point to QC instead of design flaw?

I would say definitely ... just like a lot of other issues on the S550. You can have the best design and manufacturing drawings and specifications in the world, but if those are not followed due to lack of manufacturing processes and quality, then you end up with problems.

With propper DFMA, a good design can't be built wrong. Short of blatant errors.

I think the MT82's real problems are greatly exaggerated. This is my 2nd mustang with that tranny and I've had no real problems. Seems to even smooth out a little after a few thousand miles. The 3.73 ratio, and manuals in general aren't for everyone, but I like it.

The problem is not always an R&D or an engineering issue, bean counters make them cut corners to save money, that may be the problem. In a performance car like the Boss 302 for 12/13.....as an example the shifter was such garbage,so much so that it destroyed transmissions by the hundreds. The simple solution was for a few thousand Boss owners to buy an aftermarket shifter. The GT 500 Came with a CF one piece driveshaft, the Boss ,cheap two piece junk(I killed3).....bean counters have an effect,so yes R&D and engineering is only a part of the problem

Lets talk about factory struts and shocks. I've always found them to be a bit bouncy. when it came time for me to lower the car i went with aftermarket struts and shocks and springs and every time there was a noticeable improvement in ride quality and refinement, changing the entire ride characteristics of my cars. My gt/cs is the best stock suspension of all my previous mustangs not just because of the IRS but it has good firmness without being bouncey. it sits so high so i will be replacing it with a steeda handling pack. The margin of excellence in engineering between the factory to the aftermarket is a big one. There is something to be said about putting your own signature on a great platform. Ive got big plans for this car cant wait to achieve my goals!
