Any update on the cause?
Not yet. I am going to check in with the shop today and see if they've got anything.

DO NOT GO WITH A FACTORY SHORTBLOCK.. You have the motor out, spend the extra coin for a built SHORTBLOCK... MMR, Livernois, JPC, etc.. All have decent pricing on shortblocks.. I would rather go into a gun fight with a bulletproof vest.. Think of it like that.. If you can come up with the extra cash get a longblock with some ported heads.. Take advantage of misfortune.. It is hard to want to spend the coin.. I know... If you go longblock you can sell your stock parts and get some cash back...:headbang:
Hard to spend the extra cash when you don't have it though -_- I updated a few posts back that I was going with a stock block, Wiesco pistons and Manley rods, upgraded OPG. It's all I could fit into my budget for now.

...
But all the FI venders, and most of the forum guys say the factory block is more than adequate for a regular joe to use with a supercharger/turbo. I suppose a guy who uses drag tires and spends time on the track should upgrade the block, but word on the street is the stock motor is more than capable. Just curious.

UPDATE: cylinder number 5 rod bearing spun. By the damage they saw, they said it looks like it was either starving for oil, or over pressure on that cylinder. The rest of the engine was fine. No signs of detonation or anything on the top end going wrong. The crank is reusable, they're going to grind it and reuse it. The block is good as well. They're getting going on building the new block with the new Pistons and rods now. Hopefully they can finish it up soon and i can get this car running again in the near future.

Similar to what my M3 did when it was tuned and the RPM limit was increased.

I'd advice you keep RPM's down and whilst it is being built if you don't already have them do the OPG, crank sprocket and fit a balance crank pulley like ATI.

About time you pay for the machine shop to grind over your crank you probably can buy a boss 302 crank for 300 bucks and stay with oem clearance and quality

Here's a shot of the bad areas on the crank. And the new stuff finally ready to go in. #5 rod journal was grooved and then those two mains had evidence of excessive heat build up/ oil starvation. Just about every rod bearing was showing signs of oil starvation according to him. Oil pump gears were completely fine when they came out.

I really like those pistons. I have seen wiseco pistons take some serious punishment lol.

Mobile 1 5w20 on page 3. I was curious as well and looked though all of the pages lol
He either needs to test his oil pump or it got clogged somewhere in the engine and caused the starvation.

Daniel was there any junks in your oil filter anywhere? Has it been cut open? How was the oil when it was drained?

Yes there were stock. And still intact. I have MMR going into the new motor.

Oil was just changed a couple days before it happened.old oil was clean when I changed it. Obviously the oil after the problem was full of flakes. they checked pretty much everything else down to the bare block, said it was all good.

I was asking incase there was larger chunks from something else that might be plugging any oil orifices that caused the starvation. Obviously there is shavings when bearings do that.
