In this day and age, that's not really good enough.

If we are able to obtain most of this information independently (through advice given on forums such as this), then it's not too much to expect a dealership who you have entered a contract worth circa 60K with to provide you with an update every couple of months - especially with a process that takes over a year.

Sadly, car salesmen generally lose interest in the customer once their signature has been obtained.
You mentioned in this day and age it's not good enough and you expect an update. Well don't expect it, because it doesn't happen like that. That causes you to be upset when you don't get it. This is how ordering a car works and this is how it will be for all of us. You will need to accept that.

When you consider that the salesmen don't know as much as you think and then it suddently becomes a little more acceptable. The forum 'advice' is also speculative and is information based on past experiences. Don't get me wrong, I'm always reading and keen to hear how other peoples experiences are to give me a rough indication of how mine will go. But I am not relying on that is being 100% accurate.

Maybe I'm different, I just go with the flow and when it happens it happens. Getting unhappy never helps anything. I am anxious and waiting, but contacting ford/dealer makes no difference to me or the order.

It should happen "like that" - if you accept tardiness then you become a part of the problem. I have never been upset with the process (I am also the "go with the flow" type) however I will call out poor customer service when I encounter it.

Ford Australia even recognised that (briefly) when they started doing a ring around last year to update people on their order status after copping a sustained blast on social media. Even though most of the information provided was incorrect and outdated, at least an attempt was made.

The waiting is over for me, but I hope those that follow benefit from a little more information sharing from Ford.

Exactly - Forums are good for info but they also raise expectations, in the main most will receive their order within a timeframe - others for whatever reason will get theirs earlier or later.

I've seen guys on other mustang forums getting bent out of shape, cancelling their orders etc because of the expectation built up by daily discussion on forums.

It's a mass manufactured product - and it's going to take the time it takes, once you pay your deposit you just have to wait for it, no amount of raging will make it arrive quicker.

May make you feel better for a minute or two tho :)

Cheers

Does anyone have any idea of roughly when I can expect my Mustang, which I ordered January 7, 2016? It's been nearly 5 months and I haven't heard anything from Ford yet. Has anyone else who placed an order in Dec 2015/Jan 2016 heard anything yet? My car is a auto GT fastback.
Give your Dealer a call and ask them to have a look on your order in their system and whether an NSC code has been assigned. If yes, get the code and message Ford Australia on Facebook and they will be able to provide you with a scheduled build.

Had call from the Dealer Coordinator today, re advice that my ordered GT Stang (Magnetic) could be expected to arrive at the dealers end of August.
I am very suspicious of this early delivery advice as I ordered the vehicle mid Nov 2015.
Would have expected Nov, Dec 2016 or Feb 2017. Thought I would have had a 2017 make.
Also had a phone call from Sales Mngr. on Easter Monday offering a vehicle with same specs as I ordered within 2 weeks. Declined as I didn't have the funds and I smelt a rat.
I am going to contact the dealer and ask for the VIN and do some detective work.

Did you get the NSC reference?

Get that, and the truth will become apparent!

I asked the for an NSC code but she wasn't able to provide one.

I have sent the Sales person a email requesting a VIN.

Also left a phone message for him to contact me.

I will keep you updated.

Can't provide an NSC code?

If you have an order that is in the Ford system and has been scheduled for production, there will be a NSC.

My Dealer didn't know what a NSC code was, but he went and had a look at my order and there it was.

This is quite odd.

I'll watch this with interest. Good luck!

Quickly becoming the most common question on this forum, I think we need a Sticky entitled "When can I expect my Mustang?" :)

How's this for a start?

Waiting lists for Mustangs are generally averaging around 12-15 months from order to showroom.

Don't expect to hear anything for several months after you have placed your Mustang order. If you're lucky and your dealer is checking frequently they may give you an estimated build date after a few months. This depends on many things, don't expect it.

Based on previous experience, the cars take around 3 months to go from build to showroom, so if the dealer has provided you an estimated delivery date, work back from there -
- take 3 months to get back to build
- take 1 month to get back to VIN
So subtract four months, and that's the earliest you're likely to get any real information on your Mustang.

That means you may not hear anything from anyone for 8 months - this is not unusual.

i ordered a magnetic GT on Nov 30 2016. i was expecting the same timeline as you. a few weeks ago I was told by the dealer that I had a build date of June 2 and delivery late august. I got an NSC from the dealer last week and sent it to Ford Aus on facebook and asked for a VIN. they gave me the VIN and told me that I have a late June build with delivery mid-late Sept. (so there may not be a smelly rat...)

That sounds reassuring noddy. This could be the case with me.

Just had the feeling the dealer might be doing a swap with a mate that want's
a 2017 model.

I still haven't received a reply from the dealer re VIN.

I'll give it till Monday and then if no answer i'll contact the sales manager.

Are some of you guys with short waits times C/D grade celebrities or something? I am at 14 months and still waiting...even though I am getting very close.
The article talks about returning to his muscle car roots then says nothing about any muscle car roots...
It talks about him being the first when we know there were others before him...
And you're right, stacks of people ordered before him and had to wait longer for their cars...

An annoying article all round.
