WTF?
My segmentation date was 7/12/15 and my build date was 10/12/15.
I was reading somewhere that the segmentation date is the projected date when it is anticipated that the factory will be in possession of all parts required to complete your build.

As Drewbo said, it's the projected/estimated date. Mine was "end up November". Actual build date was 3 December. I did have my VIN at the time of the estimated build date.
The actual build date will be on your window sticker.
