So, do have a consensus on what is the most boost is allowed with supporting mods on a stock long block before the internals will fail?

12-13psi and still maintain some longevity?

All comments are appreciated.

Maybe the better question then is how much HP & TQ before things start breaking?
Sadly not. Some people have broke things at 650. Others break things at 900+. You could get an engine that was assembled on a Friday when all the assembler wanted was to go home and have a beer. "Luck" of the draw.

It comes down to how good your tuner is. For a custom tune, I would only let Lund or Ken Bjonnes tune my car. 12psi is fine on 93 but it depends on the A/F and timing.

Chevy's notorious for leaving HP on the table with their small blocks so they build them to take some additional power ... thing is their small blocks are 6.2 litres.

Our Coyote's are 5.0 and making nearly identical HP. Granted we're DOHC while theirs are pushrods but still, makes me think Ford didn't leave much on the table???

Either way, my modding days are done and I love this engine just as it is!

I'm over twice the stock HP through a stock motor with only oil pump gears and timing sprocket replaced. Ford built a helluva motor.

To OP: there are a lot of factors here so you can't just make a blanket statement as to when it will fail. You're looking around the 800rwhp mark where you can expect a rod or cylinder failure. If you want to push it near that you'll need a good tuner and I'd recommend E85 or a race gas additive for extra protection.

Happy boosting.

Could you or anyone please explain how running e85 makes it ok to run more power? I don't understand why this is

I know it's higher octane. I guess I'm wondering why higher octane is so beneficial. I know it helps avoid detonation, but how? What is detonation exactly? Fuel igniting too early?

Bingo! When the fuel burns before the plug fires that's called pre ignition (Knock) which will melt your motor down FAST.

you have a bigger fail safe with E85 too since it is so forgiving with boosted motors. I ran REALLY lean and granted I let off as soon as I see a trend of lean. No issues plugs are fine

Its amazing to me how people want to try to justify how the coyote is better than the LS series while not understanding pushrod 2v vs dohc 4v

I'm probably somewhere between 13-13.5 PSI and 700-750 on 93. It'll knock sometimes and other times it'll have no knock in the logs. I think 13psi is a good number though.

Sometimes it'll knock sometimes it won't?! You should have no knock at all regardless of what time it is.

Plus I trapped 133@650rwhp so you're a little off with your guess

My Lund tune shows 0 knock on 93 from 5-13psi and no knock from 5-16psi on corn

It always adds 4-6* on 93 and 6-8* on my e85 tune
