Good MPG in a GT

Hell Yeaa now that's what I like to hear.....no offense or anything, just wanted to make sure my sixxer was getting more city mpg than the GT's.

yeah I deal with a commute from downtown atlanta so some of the worst traffic imaginable. But yeah don't believe it when people tell u this thing is a peach on gas

LOL! SAY WHAT AGAIN! Ha ha! Seriously -- with a V6 all you need is a CAI and a tune, and some are sub 5 second 0-60, and sub 14 in the quarter. To get good mileage in the V8, you could probably do best in a flat area, driving super gently, with perfectly timed lights, or mostly highway. I've also heard it said that lower octane gas yields better mileage. I went on a long road trip after getting the car, and averaged 22-23 for the whole trip -- a few fast blasts here and there, and a little bit of traffic. When I got back, I just decided to have fun with it -- now I see-saw up and down some, but am pretty close to EPA estimates for the car.

HOW? I cannot get over 20MPG. I have 3000 miles on it, do not drive it hard, and have never passed 20MPG with Prem gas. I have been at 19.2 for a week. I cant fathom how folks are getting 25+ in a GT.

I have a 2016 Prem A/T with 3.31 gears. Car is stock....any ideas how to get better millage?

Maybe try 87? Are there lots of elevation changes where you drive? The only other thing might be that tall gears may not work as well around town?

I have a stock 2016 GT Prem with 3.31 gears, same commute as you explained, and have not seen over 22mpg yet and have 3000 miles on the car. Not driving it hard at all......i'm confused how yall are getting that high mpg. I live in south Louisiana.....flat as can be and use prem fuel. WTF?

No man, I live in south Louisiana. The causeway is a 23 mile straight line, and I drive it twice a day...I will try 87, and see what happens. I thought 87 was bad for a 11:1 compression ratio though?

yeah...that pic doesn't count. with 250 mile to empty. you most likely are on a fresh reset of the gauge, and a lot of "down hill" highway miles in neutral, or you were drafting a semi.

retake the picture when MTE is less than 50 on a full tank. 25-26 will be very hard to attain.

LOL not at all. I'm running the 3.73s and I average 24.5 on my 200 mile drive to visit my parents. That includes stop and go traffic through the northern ohio construction disaster zone. These cars get way better fuel economy than people apparently like to comprehend.

The lifetime average on my GT is 23.5mpg which is pretty incredible IMO.

87 is fine for these cars as long as you aren't tuned for 93 - it will pull timing to save the engine - if you aren't driving hard, it won't make any difference. I always use the quality gas, and have been running 93 exclusively after my road trip, and also use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant about every other tank. My 23mpg was on a 700 mile trip to Indiana, about 500 miles while out there, and 700 back - for the 700 mile legs I used 87. Much of the time I set cruise around 59 where it was safe - that's right at the tipping point for parasitic drag on a standard temperature day. I made some stops, and hit rush hour in Cincinnati, and also made some runs up in speed along the way - by no means babying it the whole way...

Useless clarification, you have 3.15 gears. 3.31 are only an option on EB for AT (unless you switched it yourself, or 2016 changed the options).

Also, the only way to claim 25MPG in a GT is if you only ever drive on highway with no stops, the claims are a timeslice of pure (or mostly pure) highway driving. I am averaging 19.7 (hand calc) and do around 60-70% highway driving. On commute days with no traffic (90% highway), the most I can reasonably do is 21-22.

I get 19.2 lifetime and have about 18,000 miles logged. My drive is mostly highway to work, but I also like to drive spiritedly from time to time. I'm pretty pleased with that kind of mileage overall.
