Got my Steeda progressive springs installed this weekend with my 275/35 fronts and 305/35 rears. I took it to the dealer this morning to have it aligned and they are saying I am needing a cam kit which is going to cost $228.00 on top of the $102.00 if they cam kit was not needed. Are they trying to bend me over or is this absolutely necessary to get it aligned correctly using Steeda progressive springs? Any input from others that know is greatly appreciated.

After talking to the tech at the dealer, they are not using a cam kit, but removing the front struts and using a drill to slot something on the struts to allow for a proper alignment. I'm 1.8 and the outer limit of the range is 1.9. If this is not done I will have wear on the inside of the front tires. Seems kind of odd to me that this is the method they want to use, maybe it's common practice. $228 more dollars and it is all labor.

Yes you are bring bent over! Take it to another alignment shop. As long as your under 2 degrees neg camber you should be just fine. If you want to stand them up more than get a set of camber plates .Camber bolts are a cheap fix that will slip under severe cornering conditions, talking from experience !

Actually installed Steeda lil while ago and did an alignment at my where my brother works. The machine instructions for the front if camber does not fall into spec was to drill out the top hold in the strut. It's what the instructions that is being sent on these alignment machine. My brother works a Nissan dealership so their machine covers all makes or most atleast.

This is the dealer that I bought the car from telling me all of this. They said that they align the back first, which will change the front. They had the damn car all day and at 4pm I get a call saying they will need another $228 to get the front within spec. I don't know a lot about suspension, this is my first car (always have had 4x4 trucks) but I'm not compete idiot either. I don't like short cuts or bandaids and want it right, being I just spent almost 3 grand on wheels and tires, I want the tires to last as long as possible, if my right foot or driving style wears them out prematurely, I am fine with that. The tires are Nitto NT05's. Anybody have a comment or ever heard of drilling the struts so they can be slotted? This sounds wrong to me. Thanks for the help.

That's what you would do if you didn't have camber bolts, or camber/caster plates. And I've also seen strut towers getting notched for camber/caster as well. But these measures are usually taken when money doesn't want to be spent on additional components and/or labor to install/replace additional components.

Have someone that knows what they are doing do your alignment. Mine was $80 total. My guy did slot the struts, which saved me from having to buy a camber kit.

Where are you guys taking your cars to get them aligned? I need to get my alignment checked, and don't want to deal with a bunch of morons that don't know what they're doing.

You need to find a local place with good rep. Alignment/tire shops are not as consistent world wide as McDonalds if you know what I mean.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Just curious if people have generally had better luck at tire shops/dealers/whatever.

Also, what if anything can or will need to be adjusted in the rear? I know I have the spec sheet lying around here somewhere, but I can't seem to remember what needs to be done in the rear.

Thanks for the help!
