anyone know what it is for pls? Cant find any reference to it

Taking a guess here, but many Fords sold in the USA have an inertial fuel shutoff that is triggered by severe G loading (i.e. accident). If the switch is triggered, the fuel pump is shut off until you turn the switch back on. In most 1990's era Fords, the switch was in the trunk (boot in UK terminology?), underneath the side carpet in the trunk. You could also manually turn this switch off...

Don't think any other American manufacturers did this. None of my GM cars from the 1990's and early 2000's had anything similar...but you could turn off the fuel pump by pulling the appropriate fuse in the fuse panel.

thanks guys will have a play with it tomorrow and see exactly what it does but fuel cut-off sounds about right, we dont usually have them in the UK hence why I was stumped.

Fuel cut off in case of a roll over or crash. It disables the fuel pump.

All UK Fords have fuel cutoff's and have done since the late 1980's
