It is laughable, but I don't see Ford beating a ~$64K base price with the GT500....not when it would step all over the GT350.

Of course, it will probably stomp the ZL1 into the ground, albeit at a higher base price..... :D
I'm not sure what about the GT500 is going to be so expensive. Maybe if it's AWD or has some amazing, unique this or that (which I'm hoping for, by the way) then Ford will have to charge more. However, if it's just a Mustang with a typical CPC V8, blower and a bullet proof drivetrain there's no reason for it to cost so much.

Yeah, that $64K seems low, I mean, I think we can totally discount the R version of the GT350 since it's is a super limited, very specific demographic car too with a unique pricing strategy, so I'm thinking about $10K more than a GT350, _maybe_ $65K with a manual (and still thinking they will introduce an auto into the GT500 this time around since that also seems to be the SOP for this market segment and they pretty much have the components). $66/67K Auto, maybe a couple of aesthetic options like stripes, wheel variants - I'd assume the GT500 would be loaded (i.e., Sync 3 + Shaker, all lighting, convenience options)

Agreed, but seeing as how it would be the new halo Mustang, you'd think they'd want a fair premium.

Then again, maybe they'll match or slightly beat the base MSRP of the ZL1 and let the chips fall where they may. Assuming the GT500 sees the light of day, that is. ;)

Either way, it's more than I'll ever spend on something that sits in the garage most of the time. :D

So every other Camaro model is more expensive than the comparable Mustang but you think the ZL-1 will be cheaper than Ford's competitive product?
Hack,

I think one thing that chevy is doing right is the pricing. Not just the msrp but the ability to purchase one way below the msrp! On Ford's side, this is only possible with the regular mustang lineup. Lets not forget about the factory performance per dollars spend as well. Otherwise, one can put a blower on a 1le and even smoke a zl1 on fair grounds.

Zl1 is almost a 1le with a low output edelbrock supercharger on it. Even coyote engine is claimed to have 690 hp and 580 lbft at the crank from the similar design edelbrock supercharger. Might as well built a coyote and call it the day but from the factory things are little different. Some people dont bother with aftermarket upgrades and want something original already fast from the factory for the long run.

Honestly, I think the ZL1 pricing was GM's hail mary to try to get people interest in the Camaro again. First year sales were less than stellar. I cringe to think what second year sales will be like.

If they swap the carbon fiber wheels for a blower the price should hold steady.

Its interesting hearing people talk out of both sides of the mouths. First it is oh the Mustang GT is slower than the SS despite being thousands cheaper, but who cares it costs less. Now the ZL1 will "cost less" allegedly, so that makes it better. Which is it, price or power?

Ford execs have already said a new car is coming with Hellcat topping power, so over 707hp. The ZL1 is 650hp and 3950 pounds. I dont think the ZL1 will stand a chance.

The only question will be price, but the 14 GT500 based at $55,110; so I dont know why anyone would think the new one would be anywhere near $65k. It wont have carbon fiber wheels like the 350R so it wont need the huge price increase, and the base 350 is only right at $50k.

My guess is 725 to 750hp and sub $60k base price, maybe $59,900 $10k over the GT350 base (then it also beats the Hellcat which bases at $62,495 too)

Not sure where you are getting your numbers but my 2017 GT350 base at MSRP was just over 60k out the door. Only the initial base GT350s without coolers and upgraded suspension were 50k. Add 2-3 grand for electronics or tech pack. Most GT500s went for 60k+ as well.

My guess is they will start around 64,999, unless they have a base and R model like the GT350. I could see a GT500 non-performance pack for 59,999 but loaded closer to 69,999.

Well the PP is really the only GT that compares to the SS. And it's just a tad cheaper.

So you are saying best body and sex but an ugly face? I know alot of people who would do that, especially if you turn the lights off (Similar to being inside of the car and you really don't see the outside of it anyways):D

New ZL1 is somewhat handicapped from big bro Vette in terms of straight line racing. I mean, it can barely beat out a S197 GT500.

It's going to be a sad day for the ZL1 owners when the GT500 comes out.. I bet you a paycheck it will have better times than the S197.
