I got mine last night and installed a couple of JL audio 10" subs in it. Won't be installed in the car till Spring. Question for those that have installed theirs, how did you mount it in the car? I didn't bother getting the screw kit, I have lots of that kicking around.

Also want to say they took a lot of time to package it up to survive the trip from Florida to the west coast of Canada at the brutal hands of UPS. Arrived in perfect condition, will done!

I simply stapled two 2x3" pieces of the hook side of Velcro to the bottom. Keeps it in place but makes it easy to take out too.

If it were me... and I'm not a bass-head, I'd pick up a second sub, the dual rear-facing enclosure and run your Thor in two channel mode, so 125w per sub. I just think you'll be happier with the output, and if it's too much bass, dial it back a bit. Better to have too much than not enough!
Very well, but please see my post #135 again. If the bass is louder but not as deep, then is it "more" or "better"?

All my subs and amps will be in next Thursday or Friday. I had a very hard time with SonicElectronix and will not be ordering anything through them again. My billing and shipping address are different so they waited 3 days to send me an email telling me to call them to verify. I called them, and after I was on hold for 30 minutes we finally spoke. Most of the questions were wrong as they were questions only my dad could know. It's was a long experience. So now instead of having my stuff for this weekend for install, I have to wait to receive it till next thursday. Long story short, crutch field just won my future business

Crutchfield is a top shelf company but I have trouble paying MSRP for electronics. Some hefty markups there. I have had great success on eBay but of course have heard some tough stories there as well. Good luck with the install!

Found better prices on the Rockford 5 channel amp I'm looking at on Amazon vs anywhere else.

Bass output is a very personal thing... you may not like my setup and vice versa, but speaking in very broad general terms, most of the requests for bass in the Mustang seem to come from the "I want more" crowd. So, when dealing with a non-optimized prebuilt enclosure, the easiest way to get more is by adding additional drivers. I made that suggestion based on those criteria.

To your point in post #135, it is entirely possible to get "terrific" bass out of a single 10 or even an 8, but it would take a specific driver and optimized enclosure as well as an understanding of the acoustics of the vehicle. Serious audiophiles spend a substantial amount of time and planning to get this correct, which you mentioned you will be doing as well.

I think the main reason for lack of bass in the 400a car is simply the fact that the installed speakers are not adequate for low bass (actually for ALL bass). So, the first thing a 400a needs is a subwoofer, even any subwoofer.

My first and most important question is if the OEM panel speakers are high-pass filtered electrically. If so, then it matters not with what drivers they are swapped out, because the electrical HPF remains. IOW, new panel speakers will not increase the bass. Even the speakers are not HPF, then the max output of the system will be excursion-limited by those door and rear deck speakers. IOW, an HPF is a good thing.

Further any HPF to these speakers means that a subwoofer's signal can not be tapped off at these locations, because HPF (panel speaker) + LPF (subwoofer) = NO output.

As I said, my biggest challenge is measuring the electrical signal, because Ford removed the coax audio input jack and left me only with USB. I would have to tap the input ahead of the OEM amplifier, which is less convenient.

I plan to run a single-front firing woofer off a 1400w mono block. It'll be a SQ-build Digital Design 12" most likely. I listen to a lot of high bpm rock/metal and dance music so it'll work better. I also have a tuned and ported box for another 12" I have but it doesn't work that well with this type of music so I haven't installed it in my WRX.

This doesn't include ripping out and replacing pretty much every other component.

Not sure if this is helpful, but from the sticky;

Pre-Amp Signal Measurements - Thank you h65!
The range is 0.04 volts at 20% volume to 1.53 volts at 80% volume (and 3.1 volts at max volume) with a CD audio source. Measurement was taken from pins 7 and 8 which represent the front left signal.

I'm just gonna get a bag of poly fill from walmart for like $5 from the arts and crafts section. Or any arts and crafts store will have this. It's stuffing for pillows. It's good to use since this box is a little smaller than ideal for many woofers.
