I added a flowmaster x pipe and bbk shorty headers today to my v6. I like the sound but the x pipes added way too much rasp for my liking. Anyone know of a way to reduce that rasp while still keeping the x pipes or do I have to revert back to the original resonator?

Edit: I have flowmaster outlaws along with this.

removing resonator=rasp any way you slice it, get yourself some smaller performance style resonators and have those installed (you can do this while keeping your x pipe) and that should tame down the rasp.

or go with an H pipe, H pipes tend to be less rapy

Forgot to mention that. I have aftermarket flowmaster outlaws.

Just a reduction is good enough for me. Ill have to look that up becasuse thats exactly what I was trying to look for. Thanks

Only hpipe I found removes the cat but I want to keep the cat.

I got an h pipe custom made to just remove the resonator, sounds great at low rpm but raspy as fuck when it gets up there. Look up Vibrant performance resonators, also all exhaust shops will have small resonators you can get from them.

I should also mention like 40% of the rasp will go away once the pipes settle. My car sounded disgusting when I first chopped the res, but about a month after the tone mellowed out and only is raspy up top.

The x pipe is used. I purchased it from a member on this forum so it might of already settled quite a bit. It only gets raspy at the higher rpms.

I would say the outlaws are mostly to blame. They don't do very much muffling to begin with, they drone, and border on raspy even with the stock resonator. With a more free flowing x-pipe I could understand why they're annoying.

But as mentioned, either an x-pipe or an h-pipe with a straight-through muffler (no packing material) is a recipe for rasp. Although the h-pipe is the lesser of two evils.

I get the SLP LM2's installed tomorrow. They are basically the Roush system but with heavy packing inside (Roush has none). If they are too quiet with resonator I'll probably be getting an X-Pipe. I'm betting they'll sound pretty smooth either way.

Xpipe shall be responsible for the high-end rasp however if its unacceptable, the flowmaster outlaw is the one to blame as it is kind of the loudest axle-back system out there. If you want less rasp just use an h-pipe or stock resonator

I had rasp issues and retained my x pipe with these resonators right after them.
