Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone with expertise can help clarify this.

I currently have a Roush axle-back installed and I’m looking to enhance the sound a bit more. I’m torn between two options: the Ford Performance X-pipe (M-5251-M8) and the MBRP Armor Plus Resonator Delete X-pipe. Both do the same job but both have a different design so my question is: Does the shape/ design of an X-pipe affect sound, drone, or performance?

I don't think x pipe sounds good unless you have headers. I had both before and after with PYPES x pipe. And I thought it was tiney sounding before LTH. But to answer your question on x pipes, I don't think it matters.

I have Roush axle backs and the American Muscle X pipe resonator delete and I love the sound that combination gives. The American Muscle pipe is stainless so why pay more? That being said slight differences in how the pipes are bent will change the harmonics you get. So with different brand axle backs and different brand x or H pipe combinations you could get a lot of different exhaust tones. Good luck.

The top one looks like it would flow better to me. Probably not enough to matter on a NA car but I had the borla x pipe on my turbo set up and wasn't happy with the design so I put a bigger more open x pipe in there and the turbos definitely spool quicker.

So long as the waist of the X has an area equal to about 4” diameter.
True X on a high rpm V8 impede flow, true X is good for lower airflow motors (think old school Windsor)
The chamber X is almost the same as a size on size H pipe.
IMO the highest flowing is an H design and at minimum is size on size or one tube size smaller ie: 3” mains x 2.75” crossover.

The cheaper pipes are 409 stainless instead of 304. Doesn't last as long.

Roush, steeda and ford performance x pipes are the same exact design. So I guess it won’t matter.
