Would Hankook RS-4 sized 295/40ZR18 tires on 18x10" ET40 rims need front spacers? Trying to go as wide as possible in 200tw without using spacers. I have Ford Performance camber plates that max out to about -2.7 degrees for track days if that helps/makes a difference.

well you're not gaining much squeezing 295s on the 10" wheel. Its diminishing returns when you go wide on the tire for a given size rim. Given the option, you'd want the wheel to be wider than the tire actually to stretch it out.

But anyway, you might need a 5mm spacer. 10" ET40 is already pretty close to contacting the strut.

I haven't actually tried this fitment, its my best guess. YMMV

The camber plates don't help since the worrisome part is the tire to strut clearance, not the fender. Camber plates help at the fender but the strut to wheel/tire isn't affected.

Thanks for the info. APEX EC7 also comes in 18x11" ET52 but my impression is any 11" rim requires a spacer... (?)

APEX will sell you a [Edit] 19x11 ET26 for the front (if you want it) which doesn't require a spacer. Its no longer a front/rear swappable square setup, but its a lot better size wheel to run a 295 or 305 front tire.

Your other option is yes to run a spacer on the front with 18x11" ET52 (or ET50) front and rear. The best way to that is to run extended studs (like ARP +1" studs) on the front hub and then a slip on 25mm/1" spacer like you can get from OPMustang.com. Slip on spacers over good quality extended lugs is much safer than bolt on spacers which double the number of fasteners and don't clamp through the hub. There's not much downside to the slip on spacers and extended studs route, so that's what most track guys do.

If you need to switch back to normal sized wheels for the street, you just slip off the spacer and use open ended lug nuts with your street wheels with the end of the studs sticking through. If you have normal OEM sized lug nut seats, you can't really beat the Ford Racing open ended lugs. If you have narrow tuner street wheels Gorilla has you covered.

Wow you just answered all my fears and questions. I was not interested in spacers because I assumed slip-ons were not safe and thought I'd also have to mess with twice the lug torques and etc to swap out each time which is a pain in the butt to swap back and forth to street setup and simply not as safe. If slip-ons work I'm good with that. And I do want/need a front/rear square rotation setup.

I just online searched opmustang and they're out of stock on slip-ons. I'll contact them and be patient. If I understand you correctly, I now think I should be leaning toward 18x11" with slip-on spacers and extended studs.

Thanks again for all of your experienced schooling!

I'm running 275/40-19 on a 19x10 +40 and HAVE to user a 5mm spacer. It's still pretty close to the strut.

Yeah we hear that sometimes with the 10” ET40 wheels, but some people/wheels seem to be able to pull it off. I guess it can rub at full droop?

Yep, no worries.

Apex will sell you a 1” slip-on spacer too it seems. Just make sure to get the right size ARP studs (or another from OPMustang), since ARP sells two sizes and one is only 1/2” longer.

I ran the same tire/wheel setup on my old 2017 GT, no spacer required. Sold that car about 4.5 years ago, but I seen to remember being able to fit my pinky between the tire and strut.

I have been using a 25 mm spacer from Apex, nice spacer, no problems. I agree with NightmareMoon, you may or may not need a spacer with a 295. Think you would be happy with a 19x11 square setup with a slip on spacer and 1” longer studs in the front. I have been running the same setup for over 4 years on the street with no issues.

If OP is out, Apex also makes their own spacers. I run their 25mm slip ons for now
