Just looking for feedback about how members are enjoying the world cup, or not, over in the states.
I stayed up into the early hours of the morning to watch the Mexico vs England game that finished about 4am over in the UK.

What a nail-biter of a game that was!

As most members on this forum are from the US, how has the tournament been received generally, anybody been to a match etc.

Share your views and experience 🙂

Thanks in advance.

I think it's something people under 50 are more enthusiastic about than people over 50. It was not a very popular sport in this country until the success of the US women increased interest. As a result, a lot of kids got involved, which meant parent participation. I have a 12 YO grand daughter who is an excellent goal keeper and plays in leagues and tournaments all over the country. That would have been unheard of 15 years ago.

Interest in watching world cup matches probably was a lot higher before the US men lost. I'd guess it has about the same level of viewership as golf.

Unless and/or until FIFA pulls their respective heads out of their respective nether regions…soccer will never be a top three sport over here, but the finals of anything is always fun to watch from afar 😬

I played for 18 years. Stopped in 2005 after double leg surgery in college. Went through Olympic development programs, played on multiple teams throughout every single year for those 18 years nonstop, even went to Europe to play against foreign teams from Germany, Italy, etc.

For me it was a fun sport while playing it, but boring as hell trying to watch it. Its the same thing with golf, love/hate the game but I can only watch highlights for certain things. But I would rather play than sit and watch, its just boring as hell to me. Unfortunately I want to say sorry, as this goes for all sports including football, baseball, and basketball, as hockey is the only thing I think there is constant action in that i can pay attention to.

As for kids and people playing , I personally think its way way higher than you think it was/is it just doesnt get the attention it has when its world cup time.

But again, to me, its a boring ass sport to watch. Which pretty much any sport to me qualifies for. But for me with shoulder surgery, knee surgery, and leg surgery, golf is all I can really handle anymore.

My 2 cents is, The US is really divided on how they want to raise players and the strategies they are teaching and instilling into the youth for any kind of success. Other countries have a sort of pre determined style everyone teaches, whereas us in the US is all over the place and can't agree on a certain style for direction.
