If you go back to earlier Oscars shows, Chris Rock has made fun of Jada before... I guess Will Smith said enough is enough. I dont think its right though. He could've got at Chris differently, more man to man and off camera. I saw the video with Japanese sub titles, so it didnt have the 30 sec sound gap. He yelled at him. "keep my wifes name out your F@$!kin mouth!

I don't know what I would have done, but considering I'm divorced and on relatively good terms with my ex, I probably would have laughed along. But I don't take myself too seriously; also have the rare ability that seems to be lacking in society today, to blow things off. I just don't care what other people think or say. A person's opinion carries no more weight and has no more validly than anyone else.
When I saw the 100s of headline reporting this my 1st thought was a publicity stunt considering the Oscars have struggled to draw an audience for the last few years. After watching the video you posted I'm not so sure anymore. What was the joke? I wish the video was longer so I could see what Rock actually said??

My first thought was that it was staged.

More distraction from other things that are actually news worthy, IMO.

Hello; I have not watched the oscars in decades. If they start punching the hosts I will start watching.
I still do not know what Rock said so that part is hanging. A pretty good slap but still only a slap. Maybe Rock and Smith can do a celebrity cage fight? I would watch that.

This was 100% staged for the exact reasons you stated. Will Smith is an actor. You don't think he can feign outrage and then moments later draw tears as the portrays the victim in this scenario. He's a complete buffoon. He wasn't outraged and slapping people when August Alsina was in his wife's mouth.

Glad I'm not the only cynic out there. This made me laugh, I don't know who August Alsina is but I have seen headlines talking about the Smith's open marriage, so I'm guessing it's a young guy she reliving her youth with.

Yes, alopecia and Rock made a GI Jane joke directed to her. Smith was laughing hilariously at the joke and then looked at Jada. She sneered and then he went rogue on Rock. He should have grabbed her and walked out, but nooooo he had an award to collect. I hope the Academy retracts the Oscar and sends him a nice get lost message. That was a bullshit move on his part, plus he was high on something.

She could have worn a wig or one of those big hats and avoided any comments.
The joke wasn't even half insulting. Good thing it wasn't Don Rickles delivering the lines. He could have crucified her, ...and him.
Couldn't have been much of a slap as it didn't faze the host one iota.

bad joke, picking on someone's ill health but you can't just go up and start slapping people cause they said something you don't like OR in this case your significant other didn't like. The fact Smith didn't get flung out immediately, either staged or someone was too scared to do the needful.
