Just looking for feedback about how members are enjoying the world cup, or not, over in the states.
I stayed up into the early hours of the morning to watch the Mexico vs England game that finished about 4am over in the UK.

What a nail-biter of a game that was!

As most members on this forum are from the US, how has the tournament been received generally, anybody been to a match etc.

Share your views and experience 🙂

Thanks in advance.

I think it's something people under 50 are more enthusiastic about than people over 50. It was not a very popular sport in this country until the success of the US women increased interest. As a result, a lot of kids got involved, which meant parent participation. I have a 12 YO grand daughter who is an excellent goal keeper and plays in leagues and tournaments all over the country. That would have been unheard of 15 years ago.

Interest in watching world cup matches probably was a lot higher before the US men lost. I'd guess it has about the same level of viewership as golf.

Unless and/or until FIFA pulls their respective heads out of their respective nether regions…soccer will never be a top three sport over here, but the finals of anything is always fun to watch from afar 😬
