I have a question, I have the 20" foundry Rims. They take a 265/35R20 tire. I cant only find a single winter tire in that size when I do some online searches. Seems The X-Ice and BLizzacks dont come in that size? AM i going to have to buy a whole set of rims too? damn was not expecting that.

Yeah I saw those, are they as good as Blizzack or Michilin X-Ice? I am looking for something that will perform well in snow, but also survive my daily 90 mile commute when its dry. I am in CT, so we can have winters with nothing, and winters where it snows everyday.

You will probably save enough money buying 18" snow tires over 20" ones that it will almost pay for a cheap set of wheels.

No clue how they compare, I live down south and don't have to worry about winter tires :).

I did see this review from a Buffalo resident and given the fact they have serious winters each year, I think this review is a worthy one.

I just put these on for the SIXTH winter. They've got 28,000 miles and will probably go through 2 more winters. Besides their being a really good snow tire in Buffalo winters, what I'm most impressed about is 1) they are as quiet as a summer tire, 2) they feel like a normal tire - no twitchiness from deep lugs, and 3) they wear like there's no tomorrow.

I'd buy these again in a heartbeat, but that may not be for some time.

Thanks for that link. Looks like the only option at that size. I might try and pick up some cheaper 18 or 19 inch rims and smaller tires.

Using an inexpensive set of winter wheels will also keep your good wheels safely away from the corrosive effects of road salt.

Get some 18inch wheels and tires and be done with it.

What it will cost you to swap tires on the 20 inch rims twice a year will pay for your 18 inch wheels in a couple of years - probably less if you factor in the price difference between an 18 tire and 20 inch one.

The price difference between those and the cheapest 18" snow tires on TireRack -- Dunlop Winter Maxx, which are pretty good -- is $140 a tire. Enough to buy a new set of wheels. Do that instead.

So I am thinking about getting the following rims

Advanti Racing Drago. 19x8.5 22 lbs each. They are about $225 each. Lightweight. Not bad looking. I can then get a set of 245/40R19 XL Michelin X-Ice Xi3 (27lbs). Its a brutal $1900 but unless I can find some used rims I like, that is not a bad price. And they are lightweight rims. Same setup on 18s would be $1600.

I dont know much about rims, are these any good?

For winter rims I personally would not be concerned about the weight and would buy the cheapest rim I could. $225 seems a little high. Seems to me tirerack had some 19inch rims (for GT PP) that were only $199.

Assuming you don't have PP. Tirerack has wheels for you car down to $95each f you go 17 - which I would. Or about $114 if you stick with 18 inches.

Well they would be on the car for 3-4 months. That's a good chunk of the year, so don't want to get something that looks crappy. Trying to go the used route. If I could pick up a set of the stock 18 rims for around $500 would jump on that.

Anybody getting a 17" winter tire set for non PP cars? I ended up getting the Dunlop Winter Sport 4D's with wheels from tire rack.
