Guess I was naïve on the protentional of the internet and a connected world...I would say that in some respects I certainly was

Unfortunately the internet, a tool designed for eduction, is the cause of much of what you are concerned about. As a Boomer, and proud of it, if I had to do research I went to the library. I read and studied books. That's what we did, there was no choice. Then as television became a staple in every home we watched Huntley & Brinkley or Walter Cronkite. No one ever accused Uncle Walt of spewing "fake news".
Now we have Google. You can search for anything in a split second. More information than any one person can possibly handle. And so much of it is false. The problem is that there is no "true or false" button on any website (maybe there should be). People read what they want and believe what they want. People will say, I know that $50.00 gift card at Costco is real even if they deny it. Why, because it was on the internet.
So try so hard to keep our children safe on the internet. Maybe we should do the same for ourselves.
