Ive got a 65-70 lb boxer, “monkey”, since my GT is my summer DD, ive wanted to take my pup in the car. I have yet to do it, i am wondering if the perforated seats would tear or get damaged by the dogs claws?
Anyone tote their larger dog around in their mustang? Do the seats hold up or do they tear?

When he's riding in my truck, i cant keep his head out of the window, so i would envision him standing on the front seat with his slobbery head out the window, this would put a lot of pressure on the seat where his back legs would be “standing”

Do the seats hold up for those with heavy dogs bouncing around their GT?

I'm thinking of the seat surfaces, no matter the material, the door panel, possibly the paint; any of these surfaces are very easy to mar, even with a person and their fingernails.

Seat and door panel covers seem appropriate. Any concerns of premature wear and damage are then brought down to near 0. I'd rather buy and install as a preventative measure, versus discovering damage after the fact.

YMMV.

I use a seat cover for my dog, I have not seen any damage on the seats yet. The other surfaces have some marks but not bad.

Throw a comforter over the seat.

Yeah i guess i could do a seat cover for the passenger side and probably need to do one on the drivers seat as monkey would bounce around if i was not in the car… i guess id need a seat cover/comforter in the back too….

Lol id hate to lose the seat AC and muck up the interior with all the covers and stuff…. Maybe ill just use my truck when i take the dog….

I would throw a towel when my 75 lb Husky would ride with me.

Clean the slobber off your paint after every ride.

Weathertech makes seat covers for animals. My dad puts one in the back of his GT whenever he takes their dogs. He has the leather seats as well, so far zero issues (other than fur everywhere and a little slobber which he cleans after every trip). German Shepherd and an 80lb mixed breed for reference.

My 63 lb golden goes with me all the time. I just put a blanket down which also helps with keeping the fur contained then shake it out once you’re done. I have had no issue yet.

My aussie curls into a bagel on the floor. If she sat up she would 100% mess up the seats though.

My best friend is my 6 year old Golden and she has not been in my new car, yet. I'm not ready to deal with the fur and other possible damage. I thought about car seat covers, but that kind of takes away from the stock appearance of the seats.

So, she rides in my 2008 GT which she loves. I'm on the fence about selling it because it's a great car. However, I'm sure I will eventually.

I had a dog attack my 2020 Camry going after a cat. Yep, the dog attacked my car! Done 4000 worth of damage. Clawed the fender, clawed the hood and chewed a portion of the front bumper off! Get good seat covers and door panel covers. Weathertech makes some good ones I hear. I don't allow dogs within 5 feet of my 2023 Mustang after I traded for it. I traded the Camry off instead of fixing it.

So your 2008 is essentially her car…. Nice 👍

I would imagine the door panel and/or interior plastics would get scratched quicker than the upholstery if the dog likes to “stand” up in it and hang out the window.

An old blanket/comforter is definitely a good suggestion by others, it would work.
