Ford used the lighter Tremec 3160 transmission specifically in order to get about 30 lbs off the nose of the car and improve handling compared to a 6060. They upgraded the components inside the 3160 to handle the Voodoo's power and torque. The 3160 will definitely handle the Mach 1 engine that makes less power and torque. And it's lighter than the MT-82 as well.don't ascribe to 'technical superiority' what can be adequately explained by "nameplate dropping". If Ford really wanted stronger I expect they would have grabbed the TR6060 and asked for some ratio changes.
Yes the 6060 is the easy answer that other brands have used and still use. But Ford was trying to give the Mustang a better solution.
