Why don't they just eliminate the back seats in these things? They are too big and heavy and the back seats are essentially useless besides storage shelves. I'd much rather have the 2 seater version that is faster, lighter, smaller, and gets better mpg as a result of being lighter.

They should include a rear seat delete for the performance package option IMO. Or just a rear seat delete option.

I agree, I wish it came with no backseats. They've been used once in 6 months.

Agreed.......my kids fit just fine.

Part of the Mustang's appeal since '64 has been it can be seen as practical transport for young families :)

2 of my kids don't fit in the back and one is only 12. My 9 year old fits perfectly for now but it's gonna be awkward when Daddy want's to take the pony out and has to leave one kid behind.

I think the rear seats are a shame. They look great but are pretty useless for anyone a tad over 5ft.

Not so much the lack of legroom more the lack of headroom.

The original 60s Mustang was pretty comfy for 4 people.

Any great photoshoppers out there can do an S550 with the '65 coupe roof line shape.

The back seat isn't THAT heavy. It's easy enough to take out if you're going to the track. I wish they would have some kind of easy off feature to make the front passenger seat super easy to pop out

It is a valid question, but I like my backseat. My 4 yr old fits easily, and I figure it'll work for him, till he's large enough to sit up front.

Then as other's have mentioned, there's tradition, mustangs have always had back seats. Though the real utility has usually not been great. I owned a 65 coupe as a teenager-early 20's. Adults did actually fit in the back, but it was only comfortable for short trips. Still, in my view a mustang should have 4 seats, just like it should have 2 doors. A 2 seater would be a different animal.

There may be an impact to insurance as well going to 2 seats?

It is weird that mustangs, get heavier every generation, while still somehow managing to have less room inside, but there are mitigating factors. Much of the weight difference between the current and previous gen can be attributed to the new IRS, and "creature comforts". The price point prevents the use of some lighter materials. Still, one would think the mustang could be lighter. At least we haven't reached Challenger proportions!

I like them, gives me space to throw stuff back there. Plus it's handy, only having 2 seats sucks.

IMO mustang is a GT car, the back seat is so you can put bags back there that can be easily accessed while driving. It's a luggage shelf, not a seat. :)

I've already removed mine. I'll buy a delete kit eventually but I'm kind of waiting to see if any other opinions come to market.

Idk where people get that the back seats are useless Ive had 4 people in my s197 many times and it was decent. the S550 has even more room back there. Im 6'0 and fit ok...I wouldn't wanna take a long trip in the back but for most things they work ok. they put back seats in rangers and S10s for years and people used them. I rode around in the back of a ranger in high school all the time.
