says the guy who bought a 401A with all it's "useless" trinkets. Ford et. al. make BANK on options by charging ~3-5x what they actually cost. People buy options because they think they want them.

I know this is very data but for its time, I prefer this Camaro layout. Give me a modern version of this and I would be far happier.

what year is that? Gen4? I agree, a proper handbrake, not some GD switch which will auto-release the brakes for you because the computer decided. And an actual storage compartment you can reach. I much prefer the Gen6 belly-coolers than the arm-frostbite ports though.

Sorry , it doesn't change my opinion. Useless toy. Way too small. Nowhere as visible as the driver's dash.

What I want to know is why the camel hump for the driver display? Why couldn't they have a level dash? Is it that the visibility would have been even worse out the front so they only raised it to accommodate the space and ergonomics? I think that is one thing that really bugs me. Some may like it or akin it to a pilot seat but I do not get a full wraparound feel with the rest so that too failed if that is what they wanted. Sure, many do not like the Mustang dash but theirs is based on years of nostalgia having the shape it has.

From this view, it looks like they extended a hood upwards that really wasn't necessary.

I also would have preferred the crotch coolers to have been mounted alongside the center display and to loose the thick heavy bezel frame from the center display. What, is this an 80's monitor? Had they done those three things it would have been nice. I do prefer the reduction of the chrome plastic though. I do love chrome but make it real metal or get rid of it. The fancy LED thin lightbar is cool for all of ten minutes. After that, I am just looking at it as something else to break and no one to provide parts for. I want a car built to last 25 years, not 3-5.

I do like that they retained all the easy access buttons under the display.

The seats are nice but I have nothing against my 401A seats. PP2 has heated and cooled and are a good fit for me but I had nothing bad to say for the Camaro either. Only the Civic Type R felt terrible.

There are something I like but others are just ways to raise the price that would never be found on a true race car. Do any motorsports have HUDs or any of these extras? I cannot be sure but I do not think so. To me, even the Mustang has too many toys. Sports cars should be minimalistic. Fine, make it comfortable to drive but leave everything out and save the weight from all the sensors and copper. I bet you could probably save well over 100lbs.

I bet if anyone took what they liked from each car, they would still end up with a car only some would like. There is no perfect interior. Only what we are will to live with.

the HUD is nice to have even if its a small feature. being able to see your navigation there is different than seeing your speed. I just dont have it set to see nagivation mode currently. also...you WANT a HUD to be small. you dont want it blocking your view too much.

as far as the humps, like i said..i dont even see them because im not short. Maybe a shorter person would notice them, but they dont even come above the line of the hood from my point of view. not an issue at all.

i do prefer this screen over the 401A screen in the mustang, and MUCH prefer it over the base model screen in the mustang.

seats in both are nice. i personally prefer the alcantara and leather with the camaro and still have the heated and cooled function. Nothing really against the mustang leather seats though.

haha, i look at all the threads that interest me.

that said, i sold the boosted coyote! i got offered more than i put in to it, and got a great deal on my new 2021 2ss 1le. still love this forum though!

401a is fantastic. I think you're just jelly.

i agree. but i think when ford brings a HUD to the mustang everyone will still appreciate it. same for hood props

being able to see navigation directions in front of you instead of looking over to the center console is convenient. I dont really see an argument against that.

speed and rpm are notably less important but still nice.

This interior is exactly why I did not get passed sitting in the Camaro. Besides the ridiculously small trunk opening

I'm 5'-10" and the shroud over the gauges didn't cross into my line of site during my test drive of a '21 ZL1. I thought it would be an issue but it isn't, not at all. The shroud around the gauges is down in sight with the hood, and doesn't block the road. I agree they could have made it smaller, though, and it might look a little better. And I honestly barely noticed the HUD display in the ZL1 since I'm not used to it being there in my Mustang.

Both of the cars look good to me but the rear view of an 18+ Mustang GT or GT350 with quad the tip exhaust squatted down on some 305+ tires was what won me over. Then the sound of the Coyote motor revving through the gears was like music to my ears. Also aftermarket parts seemed to be a little more abundant and reasonably priced for the Mustang. As a previous owner of a 2011 Camaro I must say I've had far less problems with the Camaro in 9 years than I've had with my Mustang in 9 months. Could be due to the service centers I've dealt with but still all the same. I've always been a Ford guy and only considered and bought the Camaro for the other half. Wasn't a bad investment. Visibility was only a problem during the test drive. I was used to it by the time I had made it home. Atleast from my point of view.....

The argument against is that you can't not see it, and that you can't get rid of it without losing the HUD function entirely. I don't want to see anything straight ahead of me in the windshield that isn't a real, physical object out there ahead of the car. Never mind putting up with the idea that I'm supposed to continuously monitor how fast I'm going.

FWIW, I don't use any form of in-car electronic navigation. Don't need to.


The thing is, I'd be on board with the idea if they'd get these displays away from central vision and move it over to the A-pillar. The A-pillar gauge is always there (showing mph and coolant temperature). The other items are only there at track days. I would find any display in (roughly) the black oval to be distracting, particularly when any numbers or bars change.

I'm maybe 5'-10, and I didn't find the double-hump instrument panel shape to be particularly intrusive when I got a brief drive in a 6th gen 1SS a couple of years ago.
