I am an owner of a 2020 European spec Mustang GT who a week ago installed a Gen5 stage 2 Whipple supercharger along with the OPG/ sprocket combo and retiming of the engine, the install went well and the car was running great, big power difference from stock obviously. The car has some steeda stop the hop parts, an h pipe plus 315 on the back and 285 in the front.

I was testing the car after the Whipple install and it was running great when at one point and at a WOT launch I had it go to limp mode, show a wrench on screen and say see manual. I immediately went and parked it, let it cool off and after that it run great again. However this happened again yesterday and after limp mode the car doesn't go above 6000 rpm, felt loss of power. Same screen, same message on the dash. I went to Diagnostics via the Tomahawk and got the following DCT error codes: P2119 - throttle body related and 2 for the cats/gpf filter : P2453 and P245F. Haven't driven the car since cause I am unsure how to proceed.

The car idles fine, didn't notice anything peculiar other than the loss of power and the codes I mentioned. I have talked with my mechanic and emailed Whipple and at this point I am waiting for a response before I move the car again.

Any guys here had a similar problem or have any advice? I would very much appreciate some feedback.

Seems like a few have had issues with the gasket between the throttle body and inlet. Many remove the gasket and just use a thin layer of Blk rtv silicone. That could quite possibly be your cure all as well.

Whipple has tons of problems with p2119. The p2119 code is triggered when the measured throttle angle doesn’t match the commanded throttle angle within a specified time. I believe the problem is they are trying to move the throttle blade as fast as stock but the oval blade is much larger and heavier. Once you slow down the opening rate in the calibration the problem goes away. The gasket introduces a layer of soft material so when you tighten the bolts the housing deflects and puts additional drag on the shaft, which slows response more.

Seems like all sources point at the same conclusion, Whipple suggested the same. I will remove the gasket and see how it behaves, thank you both for the advice!

An update on the car.

I erased the codes and it was running fine after that.

Fast forward a few weeks later, had oil smell and some faint white smoke come out of the exhaust after a spirited drive. Checked the engine, loss of compression on cylinders 3 and 4 , took the engine apart and here are the results:

Pistons 4 broke and 3 had some damage. Corresponding cylinders had some damage as well.
I am going to need to built the engine, forged pistons, rods and sleeves and probably gonna run headers with high flow cats and take that damned gpf filter off. And most important of all , a custom tune.

Was running the base gen 5 stage 2 Whipple tune with the 3.875 pulley with an H pipe.

I have read guys are running base Whipple tune with a stock engine and this didnt happen to them but unfortunately here we are.

Trying to figure out the same, not sure what the root cause is but the stock cats + gpf filter seem to be a major restriction of the system, maybe the tune played a part.

Oh well, back to the drawing board
