I have a brand new 2021 GT - base, auto, standard suspension. I have a set of Steeda 555-8210 springs new in the box. I don’t want to get too over the top crazy with suspension mods, but I do have questions about what pairs best with these.

my only previous lowered car experience was with a 96 Thunderbird with cut factory springs, Koni adjustable shocks up front….it was bouncy, horrible, and a giant pain in the ass to drive, because it was just way too low. Stock shocks eventually went back in that car.

now, the Steeda shocks arent nearly as extreme. So, what should I do about shocks?

how would stock shocks be with these springs? Would it still ride nice? I like the way it feels stock, but better would be…..better.

I did like my Koni yellow adjustable shocks. open to other suggestions as well. The car is just a daily driver.

Koni yellows, steeda adjustibles, or bilstein monotube non adjustibles, or ford track monotubes.

The two monotube options should have the best ride around town, but the adjustibles are fun if you ever autocross or hit a road course and need the stiffer settings.

I went with the Pro active struts and minimum drop springs. Great ride. No issues.

The sport springs pair very well with both the active shocks & struts ... & the fixed Pro Actions. Alberto has been running the actives & as mentioned - he has been happy.

If you have poor roads in your area, for sure get the adjustables and dial-back the rebound.

If your roads are smooth, the world is your oyster. Most any aftermarket choice with those springs will be good.

I’m looking at purchasing the same setup as you ( pro-active / min. Drop springs ) kit. Wondering How’s the car feel compared to stock setup ? And how much of a drop did you see with the pro-active &springs ?

Yea that would be cool.
thanks
I was going to go with the pro-action setup , but Brian from Steeda recommended the Pro-active with minimum drop springs. Don’t plan on really tracking the race , just street and some trips to the local 1/4 dragstrip…

Hi MTR,
I have Steeda's min drop springs also. The 200/800 linear rate is fantastic! Those spring rates are exactly what the weight of this vehicle needs to make this feel like a sports car.
With the dampers matched to the spring rates, it is more comfortable than stock also. Important: make sure to also get Steeda's rear upper shock mounts and camber plates. With 200# linear rate front springs and camber at 1.6° to 1.7°, the steering/handling is significantly improved.

Take a look at the spring rates and ride frequency for the various Mustang models:

What drag strip are you planning on going to? I have been waiting for what seems like forever for Milan Drag Way to reopen after(still in) bankruptcy.

Camber of 1.7 works for me because I do some autocross.
I am not an expert on alignment settings, I just read all the suspension forum posts from the people I consider experts and keep all that data in a note file.
  • Ford's number for a PP2 = -1.5° –0/+0.75°
  • Steeda's number for Min Drop Springs = 1.7° (I think this is accurate)
  • Many highly experienced people here recommend a minimum of 1.5°
