Wheel mute button not pausing streams

I'm trying to determine if this is my phone or an issue with Sync 3. But if I'm streaming from my phone, either through BT, Sync connection or Android Auto the mute button on the wheel controls will not pause the playback. The phone will keep on silently streaming.

I dug out a CD and the button does cause the CD playback to pause.

On my prior car the mute button would pause streaming playback on the same phone.

Just hit the power button on your radio instead. That's the new pause button. Hit the power again when you're ready to resume and it'll start playing instantly.

As much as a pain as it's going to be I'll schedule a service on this. That way it will log some kind of a ticket with the development team. The mute button should be passing a pause command though A2DP.

Stream a song in a 2015-2017 from a mobile device plugged into the USB - hit the steering wheel Mute button - it not only mutes the song, but also pauses it... when hitting it again, the song (and volume) resumes.

That no longer applies to the 2018’s... it’s not a matter of car vs. TV... it’s the function was there for 3 model years and now it’s gone in the 4th...

Well, you can't say it's a bug, I've seen multiple infotainment systems that will not pause when hitting mute button.

It pauses for CD playback.

I've never seen a Bluetooth headset or infotainment system that doesn't pause the stream when muting. That doesn't mean they don't exist, just that it would be poorly designed.

Like has been said, mute is mute. Stopping the sound. Pause is pause. Stopping the music. I just tried muting it just to confirm what I already thought, and my 17 GT with my iPhone hooked up does not pause when hitting the mute button. Theres no reason for it. That's why theres a pause button. What if, for example, there was a song on that I enjoyed but, as a parent, I knew there was spot that had some choice words. I would hit the mute button until they passed and keep on going. If I wanted to stop the song playing, I would hit the pause button. Why bother wasting a dealers time for such a trivial thing? Ford isn't going to do anything to change it.

Do you have the latest Sync 3 update? Reports are it started after the latest update.

What happens if you do the same with a CD? What is the logic to the CD pausing and digital stream not pausing?

Theres no reason for it. That's why theres a pause button.

There is a reason for it. It's the same reason the CD player will pause. In the 21st century mute, pause and stop all have the same function. Although some people will argue about pause vs. stop. But those are leftover concepts from when media was physical/mechanical.

Out of every Bluetooth system I've used I've never seen one that keeps a stream active when muted. Doing so even needlessly consumes more energy and potential internet bandwidth.

Other reasons also become apparent if you listen to podcasts or audio books.
