I noticed this disconnected hose on my new to me 2009 Ford Mustang GT Premium. I'm guessing it used to be connected to the factory air filter box? Do I need to plug it or connect it to anything?

Without going comparing to mine - I think that might be what’s left or your sound tube :like:

That's the back half of the sound tube.

Some quick research on sound tube, which is new to me, suggests I can remove it?

Unbolt the strut brace, IIRC there is a bolt on the side of the shock tower that it is bolted to, remove that then just lift up and rotate it up and over the engine and yank it forward and it should come right out. American muscle sells a kit with a plug that goes in the firewall hole for about 20 bucks. Put your strut brace back on.

You can grab it and YANK IT OUT.. can get a plug from Advanced Auto for a few bucks and plug the hole in the firewall.

Either remove the remnants of the tube and plug the hole in the firewall, or plug the open end of the tube. Whoever removed the rest of the tube also removed the diaphragm that sealed the interior from the CAI so now you have an open path right into the interior for hot air, water, and small critters and bugs, so plug that hole.

Removed, what is stupid piece of engineering in my opinion. Rather than buy the kit because I only needed the firewall end, and pay an additional $12 for shipping, I used HVAC tape.

You could have measured the hole and went to Napa and picked up a plug too, but hvac tape works.

Yeah I thought about picking up a plug, I was in there, wanted to get it done so used the tape, but you're right.
