My opinion has always been, if you do the complete job (a real, good replica) and it's made clear it's a replica, especially when the originals are stupid rare then it's cool. If you half-ass it, it's... Half-assed.

Using GT350 parts on a GT, i.e. brakes, aero, etc. I don't see why it's a problem. Putting the badges on it, eh, that's kinda lame IMO.
So if you don't put badges on it it's half-assed, but if you do then it's lame?

I don't think you really meant that.

I would say that I wouldn't put badges on, but the performance bits are tempting to me, so I would probably do a half-assed job. ;)
I will probably put an R wing on my GT350 if I can get one for a decent price, but no other R bits. On edit: I might do the R rear seat delete as well. Maybe 3/4 assed.

Yeh but cmon you can't slap a spoiler and fender scoop and a rear bumper and pretend you're going faster.

Spending money on aero and not touching the car performance-wise is just retarded and poser. You're better actually spending all that money making it look like a GT350 into actually performing comparably to one first. Just as bad as slapping an aero kit and fart can on a Honda pretending it goes faster.
That's your opinion. I think some spoilers look good and I don't see anything wrong with trying to make your car look good.

The only problem I have would be badging it, other than that I think it's okay.

I've never had an issue with any of it til they try to sell it as real and commit fraud. As long as they are above board that it's not the real thing. I'm fine with it.

Sorry your statement is a little contradictory, and made me laugh. Aero improvements are very very much performance improvements. That is a fact, and that is why so much effort when into them by Ford and every other company building high performance cars.

The partial GT bodied Coyote powered black mule had no issues moving around the ring.

A stock GTPP in complete GT350 aero will be faster, more stable, run cooler and it affords much more front tire clearance. Unique GT350 components are functional ones. That is the whole mantra of this car, and why it appeals to so many non Ford buyers.

One could take that to the next level and swap front knuckles to get improved stiffness, better bearings, and reduced weight on the front of the car.

Two things. 1) I built mine for under 30k. A real one, you better add a zero and double to even begin to start looking. 2) the replicas (a quality one) far outpace the original in safety.

As far as cobra mustang clones, I'm not a fan. I think it's perfectly acceptable to use bits and peices, like terminator front end on a gt, or wheels, or even the whole thing like the photo above. But the second you start badging, that's lying. Or even verbally lying.

That's beauty of the automotive hobby. Do what you like. Many people into mustang, imports, canaros, vettes etc (late model) are douches. They think their idea of right is the only right idea. Look at the real housewives quality drama streaming across Camaro and this board currently. As you get into older crowds and generally older cars, that starts to go away. When you get all the way back into the street rod stuff, those guys all get along. No matter brand, loyalty, taste (or lack thereof) or even engine size. Until that level of kinsmanship is achieved, and lack of intolerance of other people's wants is overcome, late model performance/customizing won't see the level of detail and brotherhood that other areas of the automotive hobby has attained.

Edit: I have three distinct group of friends. Street rodders (real old guys, I built one about 18 years ago), muscle car era guys (I am on my second replica cobra and help guys with there old cars when needed) and late model people. As you go to newer cars it is a distinct change from a brotherhood to a competition atmosphere. It's kinda sad sometimes to see friendships lost over stupid shit where with the old guys, the same type of disagreements lead to stronger kinships.
I agree with you on this. I've been into the car scene my whole life, and I've seen some serious battles between friends over stuff like this. Buddy sold his '70 Chevelle because it had some SS touches, but wasn't a true SS, and he got tired of the crap.

I've seen a lot of hate for stuff like this too on the SVTP forums. Lot of people hate Fobras. I can't really say much since my Terminator is fake (hence the name- Terminated a GT)... all of the parts that made a Termi what it was are in my car though (unless I upgraded them further like the front suspension). I had a clean, no rust, GT body that I wanted to do something with. The build is what makes it fun.

Personally, if you're not parading your clone as the real thing or putting all the badging on, then it doesn't bother me. I like the R spoiler and have been thinking it would look nice on my car with the front splitter. Not going to lie, I would love functional fenders like that, too. But I'm not going to badge my car as a Shelby.

No, of course I didn't mean that, and I don't believe that's what I said, either.

I said half-assed replicas (i.e. badges, stripes and wheels only for example) are "half-assed", and putting the badges on it (as in, putting them on a partial conversion, like a GT with a GT350 wing and lip) is "kind of lame."

It's a pretty simple concept I made complicated, but the idea is, if it's pretending it's something it isn't, it better be damned near indistinguishable down the last nut and bolt, with an owner who isn't enough of a jackass to try to pretend it's more than a replica. Otherwise, you're just a poser and you might as well go play with the kids that have a 4-door '96 Accord with Type R badges on it.

My favorite thing to do is when they start criticizing me is ask "ok, show me your car". And I always get a blank stare. They are never car people. They are always critics there in a minivan.

Painted today.

That looks great, man! I just sealed all the parts for the one I'm painting yesterday. I'm going to seal the body sometime this week and start wet sanding it all with 1500. It's going to be Mercedes iridium silver. What drivetrain are you going with?

We're also redoing a 1970 Cuda right now, and the typical collision stuff. The Cobra is going to take a couple of weeks to finish up. The guy is out of town for a while though, so it's a flexible timeframe.

It
Took me two good weeks to slick mine out with filler primer. The sealer and paint was one day. He has to spray the other parts tomorrow. I'm going to wet sand and polish next week.

I have a pushrod 302 in it. HCI car that made 310 whp in my 91. It's enough to be fun as hell in the cobra though. At 1900 lbs it don't take much haha

Right! This guy has a SBC 350 going in. I don't know what it has done to it, but with a car that light, 300hp is already a lot. Doesn't need much.
