Keep in mind that a "Bullitt" car is entirely dependent on Warner Brothers allowing Ford to produce it. Warner Brothers may want a very significant fee to use the Bullitt name. If WB said no go the only thing Ford could do would be to produce a DHG car with the torque thrust styled wheels and put the gauges in retro font. We all know what it is, but they couldn't call it that.

Mach 1 is internal at Ford, and needs no special outside permissions or licenses to put it into production.

Very good points. And, let's not forget, Lt Frank's car wasn't badged as a "Bullitt".....it was a "stock" '68 GT390 that just happened to be DHG. Ford just needs to give us that colour and let owners do the rest :)

The Mach 1 still excites me........even if it means I have to wait another year to see it :)

Very true. And I heard a while back that Warner Brother's wasn't up for it this anniversary for some reason. Not sure if that was true or not. But yeah, just having DHG would be awesome. The whole reason I got my 2015 in Guard was because it was the closest I could get. I don't mind doing the mods myself since it doesn't take much (aside from the retro gauges). A Mach 1 still excites me too, especially if they bring back Grabber Orange and put the Voodoo motor in it. :)

Whilst I agree that would have been nice, I'd much rather they focus all efforts and $$ on ensuring the '18MY is as strong as it can be. Sure, another 12 months seems an eternity (especially when you hit F5 on threads like this one as often as I do  ) but I hope we can look back and think the wait was well worth it
I agree with this sentiment. Would rather see big bangs than have incremental stuff. Also, I am not sure why so many are totally obsessed with the stock GT beating the stock SS. With the aftermarket options that some of the fantastic vendors on this site have available, one could by a GT and have a SS beating rocket for about the same cost as the SS.

I was on the fence with an SS and Mustang for a moment.. once I compared the two, the only ups the Camaro has is the slight power advantage and the base SS doesn't look horrendous as the Mustang's base model. Kind of forced to buy a premium for the Mustang to avoid the ugly base!

However, like most have said, overall the GT is much better than the SS (Have yet to see the 1LE package in person)!

Chevy kind of shot themselves in the foot with very limit availability for the Camaros.. So Ford is probably in no rush to make any changes regardless tho.. I was kind of hoping the Chevy sales will go up the roof so Ford will counteract..

So much for that :/

Ford has a global game plan in mind...it's only been in the last few weeks that the Mustang has made it into overseas hands in quantity.

It behooves Ford to keep the car stable for a few years so they don't have to remarket the car all over again.

That is another thing I'm interested in as a Brit. I assume, whenever the facelifted '18MY starts production at Flat Rock, all the other markets will also start to receive the facelifted car. Whilst I'm sure it's possible to build both Mk1 and Mk2 S550s at the same time, I'm sure Ford don't want the added headache.

Also, as an example, we know Ford are dropping 3 colours for '17MY (DIB/Guard/CO).....well, Ford UK won't accept orders for those colours (as of when the news of the colours broke), presumably because the next batch of RHD cars won't be built until the '17MY is rolling down the line :)

Exactly.

Given the cost of tooling and such, I doubt a MK1 and MK2 S550 would exist side by side. When the Mustang was primarily a North American regional product they could make more sudden changes, not so anymore. It's not like Ford Corporate in Dearborn is making all these changes in a vacuum..you know they're talking with the heads of Ford UK/Europe and Ford Asia/Australia and only going forward when there is a reasonable consensus. They went through so much trouble to make the Mustang a global car that they're not going to screw the pooch on it now.

Nah, the base Mustang is nice. Obviously not as tricked out as the premium trim, but it's not "horrendous" or "ugly." So much hyperbole.

Compared to a base S197 GT interior...the S550 is a palace.

Look at a base 2011 S197 GT interior and compare it to a base S550...you'll see what I mean.

Indeed. If anything, I do wonder if Ford underestimated quite how popular Mustang would be around the world :)

I'm with you on everything but the SRA...too much work for a production option
This. They already got rid of all the tooling for the SRA, it's not coming back.

This should be the first post in the "How are Ford going to up the ante on the '18MY Mustang" :first:

The other thing to consider is that with every change there comes quality risk. If the S550 is selling well then adding any changes adds to the risk that you could introduce quality issues along with it. They have a lot of data on the current s550, any changes will cause uncertainty and they will have to re-learn. The old "don't change what is not broken" principle. Especially with the RHD being totally new, having a stable year or two of production would be a good thing.

I'll take a fixed or retractable glass roof for 2018, I don't care how much weight it adds.

I know I sound like a broken record but that is seriously the only option I REALLY want.
