I think you can blame these guys ...

I use the term G'day all the time, but never "mate".
I don't even say "mate" to my mates.
And like Deyon, if I don't know, you are definitely NOT my mate.

It's such a bogan term, and often used to hide the fact that you can't remember the other persons name. The number of times I've used it like this in my entire life I can count on one hand.

It can also be used in a passive-aggressive way, if you're on the edge of it becoming a heated altercation.

"Listen mate, I told you that... "
It all depends on inflection.

I'm not sure how widely known the term "bogan" is outside of our penal colony here down under, but for ease of reference:

It needs pointing out, that you're not necessarily a pompous twat if you're not a bogan.
There's a huge divide between bogans and pompous twats.

I'm glad we've got that sorted!

Interesting that the taillights are now red when off unless someone was in the car and turned them on or pressed the brakes.

I'm so glad they ditched the clear lights for export Mustang's, I never liked them! They looked ok when lit up, but I always thought they looked out of place. Having said that, they worked better on certain colors.







Unlit, I really didn't care for them.

The really strange thing about the S650 in Australia is that the road cars have the US-spec red lights, but the V8 Supercars use clear............................................

Congratulations Deyon. They say good things happen to those who wait. You certainly are deserving of this “good thing”. I‘m guessing that you are going to start a new thread for the detailing of this beauty.

I've been part of this forum since March 2017, basically when I took delivery of my S550. I've never anyone face to face from this forum, but I have "met" at lot of good people here. When I joined, I knew nothing about Mustang's, I was (and still am) a Falcon man. That's because we never had access to the Mustang brand, our "Mustang" was the Falcon. But when Ford closed the factories in 2016 and started to bring the Mustang to Australia, I quickly became a Mustang man as well as a Falcon man. I've since become a subject matter expert on Mustang, mostly from my interactions here.

So, while I may no longer have an S550, that doesn't mean I will no longer be active here. There will be an equivalent thread created on Mustang7g, but I will still be posting here.

For the last 6 months, I've been compiling a list of things I need/want to do, so I've been plenty busy. Some of that was prep work prior to the car arriving, which has been knocked over. Naturally, there is a LOT of work to be done after that car arrives too. In other areas, it's stuff that I have held back so that I have the time to enjoy, rather than fretting about fitting it into a specific time period.

One job that I'm both daunted and exited by is rebuilding the engine on my first lawn mower. Most teenage boys don't ask for a lawn mower for their birthday, but I did. That mower started my business in 2001 and earnt me A LOT of money over many years before being retired for something bigger and better. For that reason, I just couldn't throw it away and it occasionally comes out of the shed to mow my own lawns.

Can anyone spot the anomaly with this mower?

I've replaced parts on it as needed, but the rings are shot and it's been an oil burner for a long time now. It burns oil because I wore it out, not from a lack of maintenance or oil itself. Look, I know an entry level Briggs & Stratton engine doesn't warrant rebuilding, it's not a financially viable endeavor. But why not, I will have the time and desire to do so, and I've ordered the part.

These engines were in production for decades, largely unchanged. I've rebuilt a 1980's version with my father when I was about 12. That engine also had worn rings, he was too cheap to buy a new mower so decided we would rebuild it instead. At the time, I WANTED a new mower because by then, it was me mowing the lawns and the old jalopy was temperamental and botched back together with wire and the odd tack weld. (Can you tell there is a massive chasm between my father and my highly strung OCD nature? That's because I take after his mother, who was as particular and specific about things as I am, maybe that's why he tolerates my "ways").

Back to that old mower, thinking back, this was the beginning of my passion for engines, big or small. I learnt how engines worked, and what I didn't learn from that rebuild, I was intrigued to find out more. My father is not a car guy, he prefers pedal power not horsepower, so we didn't bond over cars like many do. But, thinking about this as I write, there were so many moments that we DID bond over that are only recently becoming obvious to me. Anyway, that engine went back together and ran hard until the rest of the mower fell apart and I finally got that new mower.

So, I'm hoping that I can work some magic on the little Briggs. I'm not going to fully disassemble it, rather I'll pull the head and sump, remove the connecting rod and piston, replace the rings, then put it all back together with new seals and gaskets. I probably should do a valve job while I have it apart, but it's been running fine, just a little smokey.

Over the last two days, I've been clearing out the crap that had accumulated in a storage shed that I rent with my old man. Other than the car and some old car parts, most of the stuff in there is his, which is a little jarring since I pay for it. In fairness, a lot of that was retrieved from his holiday cabin that flooded in late 2022. Insurance covered the rebuild, so that stuff was never going to be re-used, so OUT IT WENT! I took three large Ute loads to the dump. Some of the furniture is still to be redeployed, and I want to pitch those old fridges too.

Trust me when I say that the above shot is what I consider tidy compared to what it looked like yesterday morning. Put it this way, I can actually walk in there now. Funny how you tolerate things when time isn't on your side.

I also FINALLY sent the exhaust off my S550 to the recyclers. Note the black rustproofing paint they spray everywhere on export Mustang's. Fairly sure they still do that.

There is a guy who lives around the corner that likes to stop and chat while on his walk, usually when I'm detailing or working on something in the garage. Well, he told me yesterday that I need to go back to work for a rest! If only he knew the whole story, trust me, this is NOT work!
