Brake calipers are coming off for a little project and she’ll sit like this for 2-3 weeks. What would you guys do with the brake lines? Are there caps you can get? Or as long as you leave the lid on the reservoir, won’t vacuum created in the system keep fluid from running out? (Like the finger over your straw full of drink as a kid). I know that works as I’ve done it for short periods (a few hours), but just double checking given the amount of time in this scenario.

Just bleed the entire system when you are done. If you plan to track get some Castrol SRF.

As Tomster said just bleed it when you’re done. Remember the brake fluid absorbs moisture. It’s kind of a waste of time making an effort to preserve the fluid in the lines and still likely get air or moisture in when you could just bleed it and be done with it.

I'm glad you posted, it reminded me. I'll head out to the garage to measure the difference in Vorshlag vs stock in a bit.

I’m reading OP question as how do you keep it all from leaking out while it sits

Checking ride height? They claimed zero change, but i don't believe it. I bought them but not yet installed. Curious to see what you measure. Thx :headbang:

I think the concern was ride height between the two different Vorshalg plates, OEM vs coilover perches. I went with the OEM perches and visually it is about the same. This morning I will measure it and put it in the HR361 thread.

^^this^^

Yes, I will bleed the system afterwards. Sorry I didn’t specify. I assumed since I stated I was removing the calipers completely, bleeding would be a given. That’s my bad. But most of all, just curious what’s you guys would do in his scenario.

You can buy caps made for this purpose - or just get an assortment of vacuum caps and find one that fits snug over the lines.

The biggest thing is don’t let the master cylinder lose all the fluid otherwise it will need to be bench bled

Pinch the hose with rubber clamps (it'll be fine) or plug the line if you can't/won't. Often times vacuum stops work fine.

The rubber plugs look like the best bet. I've also used a rubber glove over the top of the reservoir under the cap. The cap is vented, so it'll happily let the reservoir drain. The rubber glove holds the vacuum.

DO NOT LET IT DRAIN OUT! Bleeding the master and ABS unit is tough, requires a special tool to activate the ABS during the bleed process, and the master will need to be bench bled. Harbor freight makes clamps for 8 bucks a set (IIRC) that you can pinch the lines shut. Not the best, there are also bolts you can use to seal up each hose. Bleeding afterward needs to happen obviously, but I would install one caliper at a time, bleed it, refil master, and on until all four are done, and then bleed all four normally. BTDT, and got $500 in bleeding equipment to show for it.
