It's not the only one. I believe Velocity Blue is the same. And perhaps others as well. Ford calls them "premium colours". They charged me 1300 euros for it. And I had no choice but to pay that, not because I cared about its variability (I didn't even know about it), but because it just happened to be the colour I liked best.
Ford started Clear Coat Metallics in 1990 on Mustangs. My prior 1990 was officially called “Crystal Blue Clearcoat Metallic”. It gave the paint not only a sheen, but makes the metallic “pop”.
This was my prior 90, notice how the color appears different with outdoor light. On very bright days the metallic flake was very present. These aren’t the best pics, but were also early digital pics from a shitty Sony cam, unaltered images from early 2000’s time period:
Tinted CC will also make the car’s color appearance look quite different depending on lighting (natural or otherwise). When the above 90 was under parking lot light at night the color almost looked like it had a slight purple hue to it.
Folks with a TT CC S550 will also find when compounding the car and buffing, the color will transfer onto their buffing pads and/or microfibers - this is normal. Both my 2016 and 2018 S550 with the TT CC Ruby Red transfer the color.
This is my 2018 under intense outdoor sunlight (pic from last year and unaltered); you can see in these pics the depth of the TT CC. In normal outdoor light, the color appears more burgundy and not as intense.
