Woke up Thursday morning to a dense fog. Driving in to work, as the sun began to come up I saw what looked like a dribble of water on the passenger side of the windshield, so I flicked the wipers to clear it.
It didn't clear.
Looking at it again, I realized it was a crack. A perfect "T" shape, about 8 inches high, running off the bottom of the windshield, and about 6 inches wide. By the end of the day, it was nearly 24 inches wide.
Not surprisingly, no one has a windshield in stock. Not surprisingly, no aftermarket glass seems to be available yet. It's the OEM glass or nothing. More surprisingly, the OEM windshield has some sort of sound insulating layer in it that makes it pretty dear. $496 installed, to be precise. Next Friday.
I drove my first LX 5.0 140K miles on the original windshield. I kept wishing for a good rock hit, because the windshield was so sand-pitted it was a little translucent. But it never happened. This car barely made it to 6K miles.
I know it's not totaled like some of the cars on here, nor even backed into like S550Magnetic. But it still sucks.
