Was I wrong about the LE?

I ordered a Limited Edition S550 on 5/20 after seeing it at the NYIAS in April. I ordered a WW with a 6sp. Deposit left: Done.

Then I was reading further and realized that the GT automatic is not eligible for the PP. The only way you can get a 2015 with auto + PP is on the LE.

Then I drove a 6sp 2104 GT last weekend and had second thoughts. There is a lot of play in the 2014 Mustang clutch pedal. A lot of inches. I had to lift my knee to get to the friction point. there's probably 3-4" between the floor and the friction point. I realize that I could get an aftermarket clutch or throw-out, or perhaps the stock clutch can be adjusted?

{Flamesuit on} So I called and changed my order to an automatic since it hasn't been given a VIN yet. Am I going to regret it?

Depends on what you're looking to get out of the car. If you're looking for a nice cruiser, go auto. If you want the full driving experience, go manual.

I can tell you now, the '15s do not have that much play. There is definitely some 'clutch play', as there will be in any car, but the biting point is not 3-4" off the floor in the '15s.

My guess is the '14 GT you drove had a tired clutch? It shouldn't be that high even on the '14s.

Sounds like the '14 needed a clutch adjustment or something. As far as auto vs. manual, it all depends on what you want out of the car.

The 2014 was new inventory at the dealer. I don't know howmany miles were on it, but I'm assuming it was probably less than 100. can a clutch get 'tired' that quickly? Granted it is probably getting abused on test drives if the way I drove it was typical of the average tester :lol:

It's not going to be a DD, so I wouldn't mind it as much, but because it's an LE, I didn't want to go adding aftermarket parts, specifically a new clutch.

I figured the exclusivity of the auto+PP for the LE and the paddle shifters would help alleviate some of the sadness I felt telling the dealer to change it to an auto... Not sure that happened.

Sounds like it's a 2014 thing, not a one-off for this particular car.

That's what I'm hoping will offset some of the sadness from the loss of the manual - the ability to play with the paddles.

I am not sure, if this is proper english: Drive a 2014 6sp Auto to get THIRD thoughts...

What i am trying to say: You were not totally happy with the Manual trans, so have a testride with the Auto trans, too...
maybe you like it even less (maybe you would not like the way it shifts, or when (rpm/load-relationship) or whatever...

Both my '13 Focus and my '14 GT500 engage at the very top of the pedal movement range instead of the bottom of the range the way my '11 GT500 did.

I don't see this being a bad thing as it gives you faster shifts.

No telling where the engagement point for the '15 clutch will be. If you really wanted a MT you may regret the auto. Only you can answer that question.

Me personally, I hate auto transmissions in any car. Some are better than others, but I prefer a manual in everything I drive....I like gadgets, tech, and computers doing certain things but for some reason I'm a purist when it comes to a clutch :-)

Though the auto may make the car more "unique", given the fact it will be an auto PP car, I feel like every time you drive the car with an auto, you'll have wished you had gotten the manual.

That's how I would feel, anyway...

I'm only going to regret getting the manual during morning commute. The stop and go part (about 4 miles) is uphill. Yeah, I know traffic is hell in Portland. :lol:

When I got my Jetta auto, it was the best part about the car.

However, I just can't buy my first sports car (and possibly only) with an automatic. It just seems wrong.
