So I have a 18 mustang gt with 27000 miles on it with no problems other than a transmission update due to hard shifting. I have a cold air intake, and Xpipe.
I was think about putting a e85 flex tune and long tube headers with high flow cats and doing some suspension stiffening which I know will void my warranty.
My thought is most things will fail in the first 5-10000 miles. I know it’s a risk but I was wondering what the likelihood is that any big ticket items would fail. I know they are reliable cars but I’m a little iffy about giving 33000 miles worth of warranty.
Thoughts?

Things definitely fail later than 10K miles. A coworkers F150 needed a new throttle body right at 50K miles. But it’s always the risk you take in modding of losing the warranty. E85 would be cool, but personally I can’t get rid of the warranty.

Keep in mind you wouldn't lose the entire warranty, but what your mods can affect. The tune, for example, would void your powertrain warranty, but if your A/C condenser craps out, for instance, you'd be covered.

Crystal ball says anything can happen, unfortunately. The real question you should ask is can you cover any big ticket items out of pocket, and if not, do you have another car to drive? If no, the answer should really be no. Otherwise you're just gambling. With that said, it's not like you're going forced induction or anything and these motors are pretty stout.

Spot on. I know it is hard to resist wanting to make the car more personalized, but if you can't afford to play if it breaks don't play at all.

Chances are you won’t have a major failure.. however, having a lot of mods gives dealers ammo to try to deny repairs that should still be covered under warranty. You could try to fight it, but at the end of the day, the dealer has the upper hand.

Guessing your intake is a no-tune-required brand?

Great advise regarding pay to play but you also need to talk to your dealer. They make the decisions regarding warranty claims. Some are strict, some are lenient. Talk to them, see what they are willing to do. You might be surprised.

Flex tune isn’t worth it, your really not gaining big HP anyway. The E85R is a different story, totally worth voiding everything...lol

Nonsense a flex tune is one of the best mods you can make to a bolt on car. I gained 2/10ths and 2mph in the quarter. Back in 2015 when I was just bolt-ons. Thats huge!

Exactly, E85 or flex well worth it. Having zero knock and cooler cylinder temps is no brainer. Base 300a car going from trapping 113 to 121 mph with just e85 tune and ported tb well worth it to me...

^^^ I had 2k worth of warranty engine work done with e85 tune. Downloaded stock tune and switched back to pump. Put about 20 plus key cycles on it and dealer did not know... Uninformed are just uninformed. lol.
