Maybe I am in the minority for asking this, or maybe it is my self accountable Conservative roots, but why SHOULD a dealer have to service a blown engine for a tuned car? I do not work for any part of the auto industry but when you tune your car beyond what it is designed for you are taking on that risk for your own daily reward. Though there is a huge aftermarket crowd in the Mustang, the car is designed to perform reliably under the default configuration, if I have a problem in that configuration then I would expect them to be accountable. But if I am operating it in a boosted state, is that Ford's risk or my own?

I can understand if something completely unrelated to the modifications breaks, but if I am modding to the gills that is my risk and if I blow the headers also my responsibility.

Maybe I am in the minority here... the difficulty is that it is tough to prove that the Mod caused the issue, but conversely it is also difficult to prove that it did not.

Just my 2c.

So i have had two Mustangs before the 2015 that is on its way to being built the second week of December. Besides cosmetic modifications i have never done anything.

I don't think anyone answered, the question (or I missed it) If I go to Ford and order with Ford Racing, and have the dealership install a Ford Racing supercharger does Ford cover it under a warranty or will the dealership, or is it still voided?

I'm with you on taking ownership of your actions, that being said, since there is a specific warranty law on the books, the burden of proof would more than likely be on the part of Ford and their dealerships, if you want to go down that road.... that's why the law exists.

I'm firmly in the personal responsibility camp (if you want to get political about it, it's HILARIOUS that "conservatives" think they have exclusive rights to that philosophy), that's completely irrelevant here however. It's not irresponsible to leverage a consumer protection act to your benefit.

We need an award for the first person with a tune to get an engine repair done under warranty. :p

I had a complete transmission replacement on my 2011 5.0 when it had a tune, CAI, shifter, catback exhaust, and full suspension. The service advisor even asked me if I raced it to which I responded honestly. It was a known issue however, with a TSB and multitude of other owners with the same complaint.

Huh, according to some people you did the impossible. Did they laugh at you when you brought your car in for repairs? :headbonk:

Count me in there as well. Had a transmission replaced with tune, intake, and exhaust under Ford's powertrain warranty.

Industry,

I would ask you to not put words into my mouth please. I believe that what I did say is that is where it comes from for me, not that it was exclusive in any way. Regardless of whether there are laws in place or not if I make modifications to my car that leads to the demise of said car, that is my fault and not the Manufacturer. I can understand taking advantage of the laws but in my opinion it is at best a grey area in the "doing what is right" camp.

There s a lot of hypothetical going on here. In reality, I imagine that a tune from a reputable company like bama is not very likely to cause any damage to a mustang. Does anyone have some insight to whether there is much of a concern with a tune doing damage? I m not worried about the 1% chance of something going wrong but if chances are higher I might wanna rethink a tune.

So would ford racing exhaust void a factory warranty?

No, it should not as well as any other brand exhaust. If something breaks, the service department would have to prove that the AM exhaust directly caused the failure.

I just wanted to add to this thread with another anecdote about Ford honoring warranty issues, even though it's a completely different situation than the mod scenario discussed here. I'm not connecting the two scenarios, just adding my positive experience with Ford regarding a warranty issue.

I have a 2012 V6 convertible, and about a month ago the vinyl top started cracking along the seam roll on top of the car. It's not very noticeable unless you look for it, but it annoyed me because I knew that by next summer when I articulated the top several times it would get worse. I should also note that the stereo display bezel on the center stack also started etching in an odd pattern over a year ago. I brought the car into my dealer last week to have them take a look. The guy that I was working with took some photos with his phone and requested a warranty repair with Ford. I found out today that they honored the warranty and ordered a new top and display bezel and that both will be fixed free of charge. :ford:
